Eligibility

The following eligibility rules apply to winning of prizes:

Majors (Captain’s, Vice-Captain’s & President’s Prize)

  • The overall winner must: have played in three qualifying competitions in Carton House GC in both the previous and current calendar years; have at least 20 counting rounds on their Golf Ireland handicap record; and have at least 10 qualifying competition rounds on their Golf Ireland record, as distinct from general play rounds

Medals and other weekend competitions:

  • The overall winner must have: at least 20 counting rounds on their Golf Ireland handicap record: and at least 10 of which must be qualifying competition rounds, as distinct from general play.

Juniors in Men’s Competitions:

The club has a clear policy on juniors playing in adult competitions and their eligibility to win prizes.

The Golf Ireland Junior Policy states the following:

  • Junior boys with a WHS handicap index of 19.9 or less must be allowed to have the opportunity to compete in and win men's competitions. Additionally, there should not be any restrictions for juniors competing, as such restrictions place barriers to boys competing in these competitions - e.g., restrictions such as 'juniors must play with an adult'.
  • All junior boys with a handicap index in excess of 19.9 should have provision made for them to compete in nominated 9- & 18-Hole Competitions during the year by the club to encourage and enable them to integrate into club life just like their more skilled fellow junior members.
  • It is at the discretion of clubs to designate six competitions that boys with a WHS handicap index of 19.9 or less may be restricted from winning first and second prize only.
  • The only circumstance where it is acceptable for juniors, with a handicap index of 19.9 or less to be restricted from playing in major competitions is where the timesheet cannot accommodate all adult competitors (clubs should clearly publish and display prizes which boys are eligible to win).

In relation to Junior Boys (holding a men’s handicap index) participating in men’s competitions, the following rules apply:

  • A junior boy is any member with a junior membership, and unlike the Golf Ireland policy which is for under 18s, a junior can be 19 in Carton House.
  • In line with Golf Ireland Junior Policy, Junior golfers who play off the white tees (Boys with a WHS handicap index of 19.9 or less) may enter the men’s weekly competitions and can access the BRS after 2pm on the day before the competition.
  • A junior boy with a WHS handicap index of 2.4 or lower can book directly into the men’s competitions once the timesheet goes live. Junior boys with a Handicap Index of 2.4 or lower have the same booking rights as adult members.
  • Juniors should not use the ‘Waiting List’ functionality on the BRS system.
  • Junior boys are required to prioritise the junior competitions. Therefore, anyone competing in the men’s competitions on a Saturday must also be in a position to play the junior competition on the Sunday unless they have a valid excuse and have agreed an exemption in advance with the Junior Convenor. Failure to  follow the above procedure will result in disqualification from the men’s  competition.
  • In compliance with section 1.3.3.5 of the Junior Gold Ireland Policy, Junior Boys are restricted from winning the overall first or second prize in the  following competitions: Captain’s Prize, Vice-Captain’s Prize, Presidents Prize, Medal Competitions, Scratch Cup (Juniors qualifying for Senior Cup are eligible for full prize), Men’s Singles Matchplay (Juniors not eligible on the basis of one overall winner). By extension of the above, Junior Boys are not eligible to win the Men’s GOTY prize.
