2024 DV BOYS GOLF:

Dakota Valley Boys Golf is a competitive high school team golf program players competing to reach team goals. Specifically, a SDHSAA State Team Championship. The team and each player must respectfully represent Dakota Valley High School and abide by the school’s policies during practices and high school golf meets.

 

Player Code of Conduct: 

  1. Abide by the rules of golf without supervision, have good course etiquette and show consideration for other players.
  2. Compete and Have fun. It is expected you participate in meets when given the opportunity.
  3. Prompt attendance. Unexcused absence will mean missing the next meet.
  4. Keep up with your assignments in all classes.
  5. Club throwing, foul language or any dishonesty will be disciplined (Possible: Penalty strokes, suspension, disqualification or dismissal from the team).

 

Parent/Spectator Guidelines:

 

Parents and Spectators are encouraged to cheer, have fun and be supportive of all players and are to be monitored by the Coach or tournament officials. Spectators are NOT permitted to talk to/with the golfers during play. You may visit with players between 9’s or 18’s. Coaching a player during play is prohibited (the player will incur a 2 stroke penalty and DQ with additional occurrence). Swing advice is highly discouraged between 9’s or 18s in any meet. Please involve the coach. Advice, or swing changes during competition usually confuse a player and negatively impact a player's performance.

 

The use of carts by spectators is permitted. All carts used by spectators must be paid for at the rate established by the local golf course. Spectators must remain behind the group at a suggested distance in most cases would be 15-20 yards. Do not hinder play behind the group you are watching. Carts at the state meet are purposed only for those physically unable.

Dress Code:

1. Dress appropriately for the golf course.

2. During competition you will need to wear a collared shirt (provided by the school) with nice shorts or long pants (no jeans or jean shorts.)

3.  Proper footwear would include golf shoes or tennis shoes (no flip flops, slides etc...).

4. Hats, if worn, will be bill forward.

 

School Property & Course Property:

1. Players are responsible for the care of the school provide jersey and bag. Reimburse for damages.

2. Players are responsible to follow course rules and to protect course property. Player(s) must reimburse the course for damages and may face disciplinary action, including suspension from the team.

 

Team Roster and Ranking: Typically Limited to 12-18 players

Team participation and ranking are based on previous experience, playing ability, and skill assessment. Other criteria: Subjective criteria: Commitment, Summer prep, previous tournament experience, scoring potential, rules knowledge and the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the rules without supervision. New players by skills and player interest in competitive golf. Rankings are updated periodically. Post season, Pre-season and within the Season.

 

Playing Ability Tests: PATs are competitive opportunities to test each player's game. Scores, skills, strengths and weaknesses will be assessed. 

 

Multi-sport athletes: Golf with Soccer, Football or Cross-Country

Multi-sport athletes will be handled on a case-by-case and event-by-event basis.

 

Practices: Daily after school unless we have a meet. Weight room TBD. No practice for JV on Varsity meet days.

 

Meets Rosters are determined by the coach.

 

Most meets are Varsity only with 6 players competing and the best 4 scores counting towards the team score. Medals are awarded to top 20 places *est. JV players have the opportunity to compete in 3-4 events. State Meets: If the team qualifies then 6 players travel. (5 of the 6 play each day with 4 scores counting for the team).

 

Practices & Transportation: The team will practice after school daily. Some practices may be scheduled before school. Transportation is not provided for practice or home meets. All players must ride with the team to and from all out of town meets, including the State Meet, (unless arrangements and written notice are made in advance.)

 

Parent concerns: If you have questions or concerns the procedure is to contact the Coach first for a face to face meeting, if you are not satisfied with the coach’s response we will then set up a meeting with the Athletic Director.
