The 2024 Lake Classic

QMGA Member-Guest Invitational Tournament

July 10th – 13th

 

The Quivira Men's Golf Association invites you and your guest to participate in the 2024 Lake Classic. This is the 61st annual event sponsored by QMGA and is open only to QMGA members and their guests.

Field Selection

The field is limited to 72 member-guest teams. Teams are assigned to flights based on total team handicap index. There are 12 flights, each consisting of 6 teams. Due to continued interest in the Lake Classic, QMGA has adopted the following procedures to determine which QMGA members will participate:

• Right of first refusal to the previous year's participants.
• Any remaining available openings will then be filled on a total points accumulation basis from prior years participation (play, applications, volunteering or sponsorships).

Points are awarded as follows:

• 1 point for each tournament you participated in.
• 1/2 point for returning completed application and being on the alternate list.
• 1/2 point per session for volunteering at the event for a maximum of 2 points (awarded towards following year's event). The Volunteer Coordinator for the event can earn up to 3 points.
• 1/2 point for every $500, or In-Kind sponsorship up to $3,000.

If a point tie exists for the final spot(s), preference will be given to those applicants with prior support of the event such as through sponsorship and/or volunteering. The QMGA Board will be responsible for final selection of the field.

 

Format & Championship Derby Qualification

Match play begins Thursday and continues through Saturday. Each team will play a total of 5 net best ball 9 hole matches in a round robin format within their 6-team flight accumulating 1 point for each hole won.

There are 2-ways a team can make the Derby from each flight.

1. The team in each flight accumulating the most points will qualify for the Championship Derby. If 2 teams finish tied for first in a flight, both teams advance to the Derby.
2. Any team in each flight that does not lose a match will also advance to the Derby.

Events

The Lake Classic is a four-day event beginning Wednesday morning with the Par 3 tournament and derby. Associated activities include chipping and putting contests, daily skins game, and evening social events on Wednesday (Stag Night), Thursday (Million Dollar Shootout) and our Saturday evening Champions Dinner and celebration.

Handicaps and Tees

All players must have a USGA-GHIN. The maximum index allowed will be 36. For QMGA members, the 2024 tournament handicap index procedures communicated by Chris Mabry and QMGA are in effect.  For guests the historical twelve-month low index will be utilized.  Each golfer must have a minimum of 8 scores within the last 12-month period, please inform your guest early on. To assure your guest has a valid handicap, please verify on www.ghin.com prior to submitting your application. The tournament committee reserves the right to determine and/or adjust any guest handicaps in alignment with QMGA rulings.  Participants 65 and older may elect to play the senior tees, all other players will play the open tee position.
