General Tournament Policy/Sign Up Rules

The Men’s club has adopted the “Play it Forward” concept promoted by the USGA. We encourage our members to play the tournament from the gold tees when their combined age and handicap give them the opportunity to do so. Keep in mind your handicap will be adjusted accordingly, and the scores need to be posted as played from the gold tees. When you sign up please indicate that you elect to play from the gold tees, so the handicaps on the tournament card can be calculated. All tournaments with the exception of the four major tournaments (2 Man Better Ball (and Met Net), Governor’s Cup (other than the senior division), President’s Cup and Club Championship), qualify. However, if you play in one of the qualifying tournaments for our Rotella or Patriot Hills Interclub matches, your scores from the Gold Tees will NOT qualify to earn points.

Tournament signup sheets are posted 3 to 4 weeks prior to the scheduled date.  If you chose to play in that tournament put your name on the sheet. Online registration is also available through golfgenius.com.  All tournaments for 2018 are open for registration. Pairings will be made 10 days prior to the tournament date in order to be able to utilize the 8 day advance tee time reservation system.

The tournament pairing sheet will have numbered alternate sign up locations in case you forgot or couldn't sign up timely. The tournament directors will monitor the alternate signings and they will make additional teams, providing the alternates enable additional teams to be put together following the same format of the tournament. Priority will be given to the first person signing up. If the tournament pairing require A,B,C,D players the tournament directors will ,follow the order of the alternates and make teams accordingly. Put your phone number next to your name so you could be notified. It will be the team’s responsibility to get a starting time.

Only teams which have the proper pairing can play in that tournament, however, if the tournament is a challenge cup qualifier we will put together additional groups which will only count for challenge cup points.

If the tournament directors need to fill a spot from the posted player due to an emergency withdrawal from the tournament, they will fill the spot from the alternate sheet in sequence.

Only the tournament directors can make the alternate teams and fill spots.

Match Play Tournaments (Governor's Cup, Club Championship): Matches MUST be played on, or played by, the date indicated, as the case may be, as indicated by the Tournament Committee prior to sign up. In the event of a situation forcing cancellation of a particular date (rainout, course becomes unavailable, for example), the Tournament Committee will reschedule and set new dates. If a particular player cannot play on a scheduled "play on" date, his match will be forfeited. If both players can't mutually agree to a date in the case of a "play by" date, the player ready and willing to play on the "play by" date shall be deemed the winner. Of course, the Tournament Committee reserves the right to change dates due to exigent circumstances (which don't include personal inconvenience), but absent those, these are hard and fast dates for matches.

For purposes of the hole-in-one pool, only holes-in-one made during the actual play of an eligible tournament will count. In the case of a match play event, holes-in-one made after a match has ended (by play or concession) do not count.

No show penalties will still apply, and no pay (losing your starting time) penalties will apply, and there will be no other penalties as long as the above rules are followed. The penalties are $40, and must be paid before the next tournament. Additionally, each round of the Club Championship qualifier is considered a separate tournament for penalty purposes. If you sign up and play in Round 1 and don't show for Round 2 (or vice versa), you will be penalized for the round in which you fail to show. If you sign up and don't show for both rounds, you will be penalized $40 for each. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to excuse penalties if a player has informed the Tournament Committee prior to pairings being made that he will be missing one of the rounds (since this is also a Challenge Cup event).

Important Handicap dates:

Challenge and Friendship Cups will be determined based upon the June 1st handicap revision. 

Flights for the Club Championship will be determined based upon the July 1st handicap revision

Governor’s Cup handicaps will be date of play.

LOCAL RULES

Tees – Competitors in all Flights (A, B, and C) play from the WHITE tee markers, unless otherwise stated (e.g. Club Championship, Governor’s Cup, President’s Cup, other specific tournaments).

Out of Bounds (OB) - Defined by inside points, at ground level, of white stakes and fence posts; Rule 27-1. OB is defined as follows: Hole #1 – stakes to white line surrounding driving range (left side), Hole #2 – stakes (left side), Hole #3 – stakes (left side/behind green), Hole #4 – stakes to fence (left side), Hole #5 – split rail fence to stakes (left side), Hole #7 – stakes (behind green), Hole #8 – stakes/fencing (left side), Hole #9 – stakes to entranceway curbing (left side), Hole #10 – split rail fence to stakes (left side), Hole #11 – stakes (left side), Hole #15 – stakes (left side), Hole #18 – stakes (left side).

Ground Under Repair (GUR) - Defined by white lines. Sod-covered trenching for temporary cables and French drains are deemed to be GUR (see Rule 25-1). Free relief is optional and the player must drop the ball within one club-length of the nearest point of relief and not nearer the hole. The nearest point of relief is the point where the player no longer has interference for lie, stance or area of intended swing. Ground under repair may include areas of unusual damage, including areas where cart traffic has combined with wet conditions to affect materially the ground surface, but only when so declared by an authorized member of the Committee. Therefore, play a second ball under Rule 3-3 if you’re not sure and it’s not marked. Relief is mandatory from the decorative flower bed on Hole #12. Free relief is available for a ball that comes to rest either on the cart path or in the decorative shrubbery surrounding the water hazard on Hole #13.

White-Lined Areas Tying Into Artificially-Surfaced Roads and Paths - have the same status as the roads and paths, that of obstructions (see Rule 24). Free relief is optional and the player must drop the ball within one club-length of the nearest point of relief and not nearer the hole. The nearest point of relief is the point where the player no longer has interference for lie, stance or area of intended swing.

Wood Chips and Mulch - are loose impediments (See Rule 23-1). Except in hazard, any loose impediment may be removed without penalty.

Stones in Bunkers - Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions (See Rule 24-1). Free relief is optional and a player may take relief by removing the stones. If the ball lies on a stone, the ball may be lifted and the stone removed. The player must then drop the ball as near as possible to the spot where the ball lay on the stone.

Embedded Ball Through the Green – If a ball is EMBEDDED in its own pitch-mark through the green and part of the ball is below the level of the ground, it may be lifted, cleaned, and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. A competitor may NOT take relief if the ball is embedded in sand in an area that is not closely mown.

Water Hazards (yellow) and Lateral Water Hazards (red) are defined by lines or in the absence of lines, stakes. The Water Hazard on Hole #13 is defined by the left edge of the cart path. Players may use the Drop Zone on Hole #13 if a ball is in, or it is known or virtually certain that it is in the water hazard, NOT the lateral water hazard to the right of the hole. The player may: (i) proceed under Rule 26-1; or (ii) as an additional option, drop a ball, under penalty of one stroke, in the dropping zone.

Aeration Holes/Turf plugs – When the course has been aerated, a ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole through the green may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to the spot where it lay, but not nearer the hole. On the putting green, the ball may be placed at the nearest spot that avoids the situation. Turf Plugs 4 ¼ inches in diameter on putting greens may be repaired under Rule 16-1c.

Pace of Play – All competitors shall play WITHOUT UNDUE DELAY and in accordance with PACE OF PLAY guidelines established by the Committee.
