CONDITIONS OF THE COMPETITION
Dates & Location: June 15th-18th, 2023 at Meadowbrook Country Club
Eligibility: Entrant must be a male member in good standing of an RGA member club or a Richmond area VSGA e-club on the first day of the tournament. Participant must have a VSGA handicap index established at an RGA member club or Richmond area VSGA e-club and meet the USGA Rules of Amateur status. Players associated with member clubs whose dues have not been paid as of the tournament deadline may pay an extra entry fee.
Format: The format of this competition will be 18 holes of stroke play qualifying, resulting in the low 80 scores advancing into match play competition. These qualifiers will be put into flights by their qualifying scores. There will be 32 players in the championship flight and 16 (or fewer based on participation) in each of the three lower flights. The defending champion will be seeded first if he elects to enter the competition.
Clubs and Balls: Any driver the player carries must have a clubhead that is named on the current list of Conforming Driver Heads issued by the USGA. The ball the player plays must be named on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls issued by the USGA.
Field Size: The field will be limited to 100 players. The first 50 berths will be awarded based on postmark and the other 50 berths will be awarded based on lowest handicap index. If more than the maximum number of entries is received, then an additional criterion for eligibility will be that the participant has posted at least 10 scores through the GHIN handicap system during the previous 12 months.
Entry Fee: The entry fee is $185. Entry fee includes cart fee for qualifying round and all days of match play, range balls before play for all tournament rounds, and all prizes. Any player entering after June 13, 2022, must pay a $25 late fee. Approval for late entries must be obtained from the tournament director, Bert Wilson, at 804-869-3246 prior to acceptance into the field.
Entries: Players must register online at richmondga.golfgenius.com.
Deadline: Entry forms must be received no later than June 12, 2023. No refund of entry fee will be allowed after June 13, 2023. Any RGA champion having won within the previous five years who otherwise meets the eligibility requirements will be guaranteed a place in the field if his application is received by the entry deadline.
Ties: All positions in match play will be determined by qualifying score and recommended USGA guidelines, as determined by the tournament committee. Ties for medalist or last seed in the championship flight will be resolved by a hole-by-hole playoff immediately after the conclusion of the qualifying round. It is the responsibility of the player to be present and on time for any necessary playoffs.
Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the qualifying medalist and to any player who wins at least 2 matches in match play. All prizes will be in the form of gift certificates redeemable at the host club.
Dress Code: All competitors in this event must adhere to the dress code and other rules and regulations of the host club and must always wear proper golf attire.
Schedule: One practice round is available for all entrants at the discretion of the host club if the entrant’s application has been received at the time of the practice round request. The club should be called directly to request and schedule a practice round. The club determines the cost of the practice round. The tournament qualifying round will be on June 15, with tee times as scheduled by the tournament committee.
