Match Report V Derbyshire U16’s
04 May 2025
Erewash Valley GC
An away trip to Derbyshire meant an early morning start for the U16’s first league match of the season, despite this the team were in good spirits as they sat down for their breakfast rolls and the team meeting. With the recent warm sunshine being replaced with cold and cloudy conditions there were some players regretting the choice of shorts earlier in the day. Nevertheless the team were keen to get the match underway.
Oliver Ansell and Tom Jurkowski were first to secure a foursomes point with a convincing 6&5 win quickly followed by Freddie Willson and Max Wesley (2&1). Despite a spirited fightback from their Derbyshire opponents Logan Lawless and Nicholas Campbell won their match 2Up on the 18th green, giving Worcestershire a 3-1 lead at lunch.
Following a frantic search of their cars for additional layers of clothing to combat the cold weather, by both sets of managers, the singles matches got underway. Freddie Willson battled well to secure a half on the 18th with a superb birdie. Max Wesley was always in control of his match and secured a 3&2 victory on the 16th green. The performance of the day was from Logan Lawless who secured a convincing 8&6 win on his competitive debut for the U16’s. Unfortunately for Worcestershire, despite some battling displays, none of the other boys could secure the point we needed for the win, with the match ending 6.5 – 5.5 to Derbyshire.
We wish Derbyshire well for the rest of the season and thank the staff and members at Erewash Valley for their hospitality and the friendliest of welcomes. Thanks also to Luke Perry (u14’s Manager) for his assistance and support on the day.
Mark Evans
U16’s Team Manager.
