Midland Golf Union Limited 2025 Junior League Match Report
Annual Tri-Match
Worcestershire v Shropshire & Herefordshire v Staffordshire
29thth July 2025
The Shropshire Golf Club
The U16’s team made the trip to the Shropshire Golf Club for the annual tri-match against Shropshire & Herefordshire and Staffordshire. Although greeted by cloud and drizzle the boys were up for the challenge and seeking to regain the trophy from the home side.
The foursomes were led off by the experienced pairing of Alex Perry and Hayden Sarfo, both matches ebbed and flowed with the Worcestershire pair securing a 2 up win against Staffordshire and, following a miraculous left handed shot out of the trees by Hayden, a 1 up victory against S&H. Max Wesly and Freddie Willson were the second pair who secured a 6&4 win against their Staffordshire opponents but couldn’t match the strong pairing from S&H losing out 4&2. U14’s Captain and Nicholas Campbell battled hard in their 2 matches and were unfortunate to not come away with any points. The final pairing saw the experienced Harry Evans paired with Tom Jurkowski for the first time, the Worcestershire pair were always in control and secured 5&4 wins in both matches. This meant Worcestershire were 3-1 up against Staffordshire and 2-2 against S&H.
The afternoon singles, played in increasingly humid conditions, saw Alex Perry secure a half against Staffordshire, Hayden secure a 6&% victory also against Staffordshire with Freddie also securing a point against his Staffordshire opponent. Harry secured 7&5 win against Staffordshire. Max secured our only singles point against S&H (5&4) with both Nicholas and Logan securing 1 up victories against their Staffordshire opponents.
The results on the day were:
Worcestershire 8.5pts v Staffordshire 3.5 pts
Worcestershire 3 pts v Shropshire & Herefordshire 9 pts
Staffordshire 2.5 pts v Shropshire & Herefordshire 9.5 pts
Congratulations to Shropshire & Hereford on retaining the trophy and best wishes to both sides for the rest of the season. The matches were played in a great spirit and the Worcestershire boys, as ever, demonstrated impeccable behaviour and etiquette on what was a very long day. Finally, thanks to all of the parents for their continued support, everyone at the Shropshire GC for hosting the event and to John Whitehead, County President, for his help and support on the day.
