Midland Golf Union Limited 2025 Junior League Match Report
Worcestershire v Warwickshire
8th August 2025
Churchill and Blakedown Golf Club
Warm sunshine greeted the U16’s at Churchill and Blakedown as they congregated for the final match of the season, against Warwickshire, for another round of the Pairs v Bears rivalry.
A late withdrawal meant a call up for the promising U14’s player, Theo Lowe, the night before the match. This resulted in changes to the foursomes’ pairings. The team were led off by Max Wesley and Tom Jurkowski who secured a point (1UP) from a match that was close throughout. Harry Evans and Hayden Sarfo took the spoils (3&1) in their match against a good Warwickshire pairing.
The match of the morning was played out by Logan Lawless and Oliver Ansell. Both pairs held the lead at various points during the match, but the Worcestershire pair secured a half with a tap in eagle on the 18th after Oliver almost holed his approach shot into the tricky par 5. This half meant the Worcestershire team took a 2.5 - 1.5 lead into the afternoon session.
Harry Evans led off the singles matches in front of a packed balcony; his 3 wood off the tee hit the pin and left him a 10-foot putt for an eagle. He followed this by almost holing his tee shot on the tricky 3rd. Despite a spirited fight by his Warwickshire opponent Harry secured a 4&3 win. In another very close match Hayden fought back well to secure a good half against a very strong opponent. Logan was always in control taking his match 5&4. Unfortunately, none of the boys in the lower order could secure the points needed to take the win. There were some very close matches, and on another day, it could have gone our way. A special mention must go to Theo who battled through the day despite not feeling 100% at times.
Once again, the boys played their matches in a great spirit and it was clear there was considerable respect between the players on both sides. We wish Warwickshire well in their final match and look forward to seeing them at the County 6’s in October.
My thanks go to everyone at Churchill and Blakedown for their hospitality and for their efforts in presenting the course in such a good condition. Thanks also to Luke Perry (U14’s Manager) for his assistance on the day and to the parents for their ongoing support.
