The U14 team arrived at Lickey Hills golf course eager to perform well after a solid season opener last month. The first pairing of Oliver Ansell and Jensen Chan were 2up thru 8 holes after some stunning shots. However, the match was soon all square on the back nine and some excellent shots from the Warwickshire boys saw them seal a 3&2 win. The second match saw our Captain Logan Lawless partner our debutant Harry Bird from Bewdley Pines GC. Harry hit a cracking drive down the first fairway which set the tone for some great golf. The Warwickshire boys were marginally ahead throughout the match and they managed to hold on and seal a 2&1 win on the 17th green. Next saw Edward Perry and Charlie Green partnering for the first time. Charlie’s driver shaft snapped on the 5th hole and the boys were 2 down at this point. Not ideal at all. However, they showed great spirit and some fine golf with gross birdies from Ed on the 11th and 12th hole and Charlie making two huge putts on the 13th and 14th.. This gave the Worcestershire boys the momentum to seal a 2&1 win. A really strong performance from Will Hadley and Oskar Nielsen saw them win 4&2 and take the overall score to 2-2. Oskar and Will have partnered before and they were 2up very early on after a great shot from Will on the 5th hole. The boys sealed the win on the 16th green with a put from Oskar. The final match saw Kai Russell and Luke Hall partnering again. The boys were down early on but made a great comeback and the match was all square after the 12th hole. They then lost the 13th, 14th and 15th but bounced back with a win on the 16th. Kai was in a great spot on the 17th with a putt we thought might be to win the hole but the Warwickshire player held his 12ft putt and secured the halve they needed for a 2&1 win.

Congratulations to all the boys on another great performance. The match was played in a great spirit and it was a joy to watch. My thanks go to Lickey Hills for excellent hospitality and producing the course in such good condition. I would also like to say thanks to Kevin Fee our junior organiser who was there on the day to support and advise the boys. Finally, thanks to the parents for their support.
