Our U14 team started the season away to Shropshire & Herefordshire at Leominster GC. The weather was good and the course was in excellent condition so the boys were excited to get the season underway. A strong first pairing saw Logan Lawless our 2025 captain partner Oli Ansell and the Worcestershire boys were up early after some superb approach shots. The standard of golf was good and after a lovely tee shot on the par 3 Logan held the putt to win the match 5&4 and secure our first point. The second match saw Ed Perry partner Theo Lowe for the first time. The boys made a confident start and Ed held a 20ft putt on the 6th hole to move 3up. Theo then produced an excellent tee shot on the next to move further ahead. The match remained at that score until the 15th hole where the boys closed out a 5&3 win. Next up was Oskar Nielsen and Will Hadley. The boys were under pressure early on but made a real fight of it winning back-to-back holes on the 11th and 12th but eventually lost 4&3. The match of the day saw debutant Luke Hall from the Worcestershire GC playing alongside Kai Russell. This was a great game and was close throughout. Kai made a very strong start with some excellent drives and putting on show. Luke then produced some outstanding shots to help the Worcestershire boys get ahead at the turn. It was close throughout the back nine and the match went down to the final hole but ended all square after a nett birdie from S&H. The final match saw debutant Charlie Green play with Jensen Chan. The match was again close throughout but the S&H team managed to win it on the last and the fixture ended a draw.
Congratulations to all the boys for a fantastic start to the season. The boys should be very proud of this result and their efforts on the day. My thanks go to Leominster for such good hospitality and producing a course in fine condition. I would also like to say thanks to Kevin Fee our Junior Organiser who was there on the day to support and advise the boys. Finally, thanks to the parents for their support and we look forward to seeing you all at Rose Hill for our next game.
