Payment: This event has a handicap ballot. Card payment information will be collected and authorised at the time of registration, but your card will not be charged until players are successful in the ballot and confirmed in our system. This will usually be within the first few days following the entry deadline. Please update your card details in your Golf Genius account if they change between entry and this time.

 

 

Entry Qualifications

a) Competitors must be of amateur status as defined by the R&A Rules Limited

b) Competitors must either identify as male, trans female or non-binary whose sex assigned at birth was male, and trans male

c) Competitors must be in possession of a male assigned WHS Handicap Index of 5.0 or less

    or

    Competitors who identify as trans female with a female assigned WHS Handicap Index of 1.0 or less

d)Entries will only be accepted from players who can meet one of the following criteria requirements:

     i)   Born in Wales;

    ii)   One of your parents was born in Wales;

    iii)  One of your grandparents was born in Wales;

    iv)  Resided in Wales for two years prior to day 1 of the Championship (if under 18 years of age)

    v)   Resided in Wales for three years prior to day 1 of the Championship (if 18 years of age or over)

      vi) Previously represented Wales at Junior or Adult level in Home International Matches or

European Team Championships or World Amateur Team Championships (players will be

asked to provide evidence of this)

b) Entrants MUST NOT have played in the Men’s Closed Championship of another country within the last three years (e.g. in 2022, 2023 or 2024) or have ever played in the full International Team of another country.

d) Entrants holding both a WHS Handicap and an overseas handicap must enter this Championship using their WHS Handicap Index.

e) Failure to enter in accordance with this condition will result in entry being denied.

The Championship shall be decided by both stroke play and match play. 18 holes of stroke play on day one and day two followed by match play stages on days three, four and five.

 

The 32 players returning the lowest gross scores over the 36 holes stroke play stage will qualify for the match play stage of the Championship.  Ties in the stroke play qualifying will be decided by a card countback with the exception of ties for the final qualifying place(s) which will be decided by a hole by hole sudden death play off; see specific conditions for full details’.

 

The match play stage will be conducted by automatic draw based on the qualifying position of each competitor; 1 will play 32 at the top of the draw and 2 will play 31 in the opposite half of the draw etc.

 

Each match shall consist of one round of 18 holes, except that the final will be played over 36 holes. In the event of a match being all square after 18 holes, or 36 in respect of the final, competitors shall continue to play until one shall gain a hole, then the match shall be considered won. A maximum of 108 competitors shall play in the Championship, held at Whitchurch Golf Club.
