2025 Spring League Rules
The following rules are meant to help each player understand the rules for Spring League and to help speed play for everyone.
The LMGA spring league is a flighted 2 Man Best Ball match play tournament carried out over nine weeks starting in early April each year.
Rules of Play:
- FLIGHTS: will be determined by handicap using the lowest index of the low player on each team. (Typical flights will be ten teams but may vary depending on participation).
- HANDICAPS: Maximum spread of team handicaps will be 7 strokes, based on 18-hole handicap. Current handicaps will be used for each match. No player will be allowed more than 2 strokes per hole.
- OUT-OF-BOUNDS & LOST BALL: Spring league will not play under Model Local Rule E-5. In the case of Ball Lost or Out of Bounds, we will play under Rule 18: Stroke-and-Distance Relief. If you are not 100% sure the ball is NOT out of bounds or lost, for the sake of speed of play, please play a provisional ball. If the original ball is lost or out of bounds, then you will continue to play the provisional ball and take your penalty stroke under Rule 18
- SCORING: Each team plays against another team from the same flight in a 9 hole match with each hole worth one point.
- The team with the lowest individual net score on the hole wins one point. If the two teams tie the hole, each team gets one half point. In addition, two points are available to the team that wins the most holes with their gross score. The points are accumulated over the course of the season.
- If weather / or darkness becomes severe enough that matches are called off during play and the match is substantially complete, with the full field having finished at least six holes, the unplayed holes will be halved and the gross points awarded based on played holes.
- If one team is not represented, the other team will play the match against par. A net score of birdie or better wins the point, net par wins one half point and net bogie or worse gets no point. In addition, both gross points will be added to the score.
- If the last night of league play is stopped prior to six holes or not started, that match will be canceled and standings will be based on only eight weeks of play.
- If the first week of playoffs is canceled, those pairings will be abandoned and the 1ST place team will play the 2ND place team, with 3RD and 4TH place teams playing each other. If the final week is canceled, the teams can agree to split the prize or they can schedule a time to play on their own, but the results must be in by 9:00 a.m. on Friday of the next week or the match will be deemed to be tied, and prize money will be split.
- SUBSTITUTIONS: If one member of a team is unable to play a match, a substitute may be used, provided that his handicap is not less than the lowest handicap of that flight and the 7-stroke spread must be adhered to.
- If the low handicap player is missing and the high handicap player has been playing with a reduced handicap, he must play with that reduced handicap and no substitute can have more strokes than the high handicap in the flight at the start of league.
- If neither team member can play in a match, they receive zero (0) points. Finding substitutes is the sole responsibility of the team needing a sub, and the name of the sub must be presented to the pro shop at least one hour prior to tee time. All subs must be members of the Lakeview Men’s Golf Association.
- A minimum of one player (or substitute) from a team MUST be present no later than 5 minutes past the scheduled start time. If only one player starts the match, the other player may join when available. However, if neither team member is present at the scheduled start time or later than 5 minutes past the scheduled time, that team receives zero (0) points.
- 6. During the playoffs, players from teams not making the playoffs will be eligible to sub in the flight they played in. A list of subs with phone numbers will be posted on the bulletin board between the pro shop and the dining room.
7. PLAYOFFS: At the end of the 9-week season, the top four teams in each flight will enter a two-week playoff to determine the exact order of finish. Points from league play are not carried over into the playoffs. The 1ST place team will play the 4TH place team, and the 2ND place team will play the 3RD place team. The following week the two winning teams will play for first and second and the two losing teams will play for third and fourth.
8. If there are ties for the positions, the tied teams will have a sudden death playoff immediately prior to the scheduled playoff. If, during the playoff, the two teams are tied, they will continue with the next hole on the 9-hole side they are playing on, but no handicap strokes will be used. Continue until there is a winner.
If any issue should arise that is not specifically covered in these rules, the board will address it and render a decision within 24 hours. That decision will be final.
Handicaps will be used from the Tuesday before league each week.
