Men’s Night 2025

Welcome everyone to our 2025 Men’s Night. We will be continuing with the same format from 2024.

  1. Start date will be June 18th, end date September 17th.

  1. Format will be 2 man teams, players on each team will be the same thru the whole year. If one of the two players cannot make it on any week then a spare may be substituted. Spares can be any male member of the club. It is recommended they have a current Golf Canada handicap or else they will have to play a scratch for the night. We ask for any team that is using a spare to let us know by Monday of the week of if possible. We need to update the system with the spare in your group and print the scorecards for each match by Tuesday each week, so we need the spare for that.

  1. There will be two division, Divisions 1 and 2. The lower 50% of team handicaps will be Division 1 and upper 50% Division 2. Each division will play against teams from their respective division all year and we will crown a champion from each division at the end of the year.

  1. Max differential handicap of 5 for teams. ie: If player A is a 3 and player B is a 12 Player B is reduced to an 8 to maintain the 5 differential.

  1. Play will be 9 holes beginning at 5:30 PM shotgun start. Later in the summer the start time will move to 5:15 PM and 5:00 PM as the days get shorter. We will be using all 18 holes, if you start on the front nine you stay on the front nine for your match that week and same if you start on the back nine. Players are required to be at their respective holes by 5:30 THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARRIVE AT THE COURSE AT 5:30. If a team is not at their hole at 5:30 the other team is to start playing, the late team will have lost the first hole and any subsequent holes played until they actually arrive. We have a full field and we cannot be waiting on late teams or else the whole field will get backed up.

  1. We will be printing scorecards to for each team, pick up your cards in the Pro-Shop before heading to your hole. This is the official scorecard for the match and must be turned into the committee in the dining room after your round.

  1. There will be closest to the hole on all 6 par 3’s each week.

    • Hole #2 -
    • Hole # 6 -
    • Hole # 8 -
    • Hole # 12 -
    • Hole # 14 -
    • Hole # 17 -

  1. All matches will be handicapped based on Golf Canada handicaps, players without an official Golf Canada handicap will play to scratch (0) handicap.

  1. Format will change each week over a 3-week rotation. Better ball, Scramble and Modified alternate shot. The schedule will indicate the format for each week’s competition. Rules for each format are explained at the end of this document.

  1. Matches must be played on the designated Men’s Night time there will be no allowance to move your match to an alternate date or time.

  1. Points will be awarded for win, ties, and holes won. Teams will accumulate points each week and prizes will be awarded at end of year based on standings. Points are as follows.

    • Team win – 5 points
    • Team tie – 3 points
    • Team loss – 1 point
    • Each hole won – 1 points
    • Each hole tied – 0.5 points
    • Each hole lost – 0 points

  1. Request to play matches against specific teams will not be entertained.

  1. Every effort will be made to ensure teams have equal front and back nine starts over the course of the season.

  1. Prizes will be awarded based on end of year points standings. There will be a weekly skins game for Division 1 and Division 2. The skins game will be $10 per team per week. The skins game is optional. All weekly prizes will be skill prizes based on tickets that will be handed out each night. Also we will be doing Splash for Cash each night following play.

  1. We will be using Golf Genius to run the competition and a link to the site will be available on the MGC website. Weekly schedule, results and standings will be available on the site.

  1. In the event two or more teams are tied for the top spot in either division the tie will be broken by a closest to the hole competition from 50 yards on the closing men’s night.

  1. In the event that a team has to play with only one of their players there the following will be the procedure.

    • Better ball format: Team with only one player is playing against both players from the other team.
    • Alternate shot format: Team with only one player is playing against both players from the other team.
    • Scramble format: Team with only one play will be allowed to play one additional shot each hole. This can be any shot or putt. The player can then choose which of the two shots they wish to use.

  1. Format of Play: The following explains the 3 different formats we will use this year. Also aside from the scramble rules exception, all play is according to the current rules of golf ( we are playing the ball down), relief is only allowed under the conditions allowed under the rules of golf.

    • Better Ball: Each player plays out the hole using their own ball and records their gross score on the scorecard. The lower net score for each player will be used when calculating holes won for each hole. Do not record your net score the system will factor in the handicap holes and adjust the result when calculating holes won.

    • Alternate Shot (Modified Pinehurst): Each player tees off on every hole. After hitting their tee shots each team member plays their partners ball for the second shot. After the second shot the team chooses the ball they wish to continue playing, the player that did not play that ball takes the next shot. The team then alternates who plays until the ball is holed. Only one score for each team is recorded on the scorecard and that is the gross score for the team. Again, the system will calculate handicapped holes and adjust to net scores when calculating holes won.

    • Scramble: Each player tees off on every hole. The team then chooses the best shot and plays their next shot from that spot with both players playing a shot. Both players may place the ball within one club length from where the ball lies and may play in which ever order they choose. Play continues in this manner until the ball is holed. Only one score for each team is recorded on the scorecard and that is the gross score for the team. Again, the system will calculate handicapped holes and adjust to net scores when calculating holes won.

Hope everyone has a great season,
