COMPETITION:  R&A Salver

 

  1. General
    1. FORMAT: 4BBB Matchplay Knockout for Club Teams of 2 Players with handicaps between 17.4 to 28.0 on entry.
    2. Each Club team shall consist of two named players. Clubs may not change the players once the draw has been made.
    3. Matches shall be played as 4BBB Matchplay.
    4. Handicap allowances will be 90% of the difference between the player's course handicap and the lowest course handicap in the group.
    5. Each pair will play their game over 18 holes.
    6. If, on completion of the match, the score is level, then play will continue under “sudden death” to a conclusion which will decide the winning team.
    7. The competition shall be played during the months September to May under the direction and supervision of WCGL.

 

  1. Club Teams:      
    1. All clubs affiliated to Worcestershire County Golf Ltd may enter either ONE or TWO teams. 
    2. Entry Fee: There is no entry fee for this competition as all Club Team events are FREE under the Affiliation Fee Agreement.
    3. All players for a club team must have that club as their "Home" club for WHS handicapping purposes. 
    4. A club must name 2 players for each team before the entry closing date and may not substitute a player for any reason.
    5. Handicap Limits: The Handicap Index of each player must be in the range of 17.4-28 on entry with the current playing handicap used on the day of play.
    6. Team entry will only be accepted using the online entry form on the County website.

 

  1. General Rules:   The competition shall be played in accordance with the Worcestershire County Golf Ltd General Terms of Competitions - see tournament portal and county website.

 

  1. Rules:   
    1. Each match shall be played in accordance with
      1. the Rules of Golf as approved by R&A Rules Limited and
      2. the local rules (compliant with the rules of golf) of the Host Club at which each match is being played – excepting as laid out below.
    2. Matches to be played on the longest available rated course which would generally be used for men’s competitions (likely to be white or yellow tees or equivalents, or a rated winter course). Advice should be sought from the County Secretary if necessary.
    3. Matches must be played over 18 holes, holes may be played more than once to achieve this.
    4. Rules / Conditions Allowed.
      1. Local Rule E-3, preferred Lies on general areas cut to fairway height or less.
      2. Carry only, this would not be a reason not to play a match.
      3. Temporary greens, any number of which are allowable.
      4. Tee mats.
    5. Rules / Conditions Not Allowed.
      1. Local Rule E-2, Cleaning ball.
      2. Local Rule E-12, Fairway mats.
        1. For the avoidance of doubt the use of fairway mats, either compulsory or voluntary, is not permitted.
    6. Should the home club course be closed on the date agreed, or the home club is unable to comply with the above conditions, the match is to be played at the away club on the same day and time agreed, if the away club can accommodate the match. If not, the match is to be re arranged. Should the agreed date be the closing date of the round and a course is closed the match is to be played at the away club, if it can be accommodated, otherwise the home club is to contact the County Secretary for advice.
    7. In arranging matches the home club is to provide at least 4 dates of which 3 must be weekend dates that include either 2 Saturdays or 2 Sundays.
    8. If the teams cannot agree on a date, or the match has not been played before, the match will be played at 1000 on the Sunday that the round closes. If a team is not present it will be deemed to have forfeited the match. If neither team are present, then both teams will be removed from the draw.
    9. The home club must contact the away club within 7 days of the draw date and propose dates. Failure to do so will result in loss of home advantage. The team now with home advantage must contact the opponent club within 7 days and propose dates. If contact is not made within 7 days, the home advantage will revert, and so on.
    10. If a date is not agreed, the match will be played on the default date, and the home advantage will be with the club that is currently in its 7-day contact period.
    11. Host clubs are asked to arrange an appropriate tee reservation to ensure the smooth running of matches
    12. Matches should start at the time mutually agreed between the opponents. R&A Rule 5.3a applies. In exceptional circumstances the team who are prevented from starting on time may waive their right to claim any game.
    13. Advice:  In accordance with R&A Rule 24.4, for any match each team may appoint one person (in addition to the persons from whom advice may be asked under the Rules), who may give advice to members of the tea Such person shall be an amateur member of the same club and shall be identified to the opposing team before giving advice.

 

  1. Match Results: 
    1. It shall be the responsibility of the winning team to notify Worcestershire County Golf Ltd of the result as soon as possible. 
    2. The result must be reported using the Golf Genius application using the instructions provided on the tournament portal.
    3. If the result in full (as detailed in 5.a. above) is not reported by the Wednesday following the round closing date the County Organiser may award a bye to the opposing team.

 

  1. Notes:
    1. Shortly after the closing date WCGL will make the draw for matches for all the teams entered. 
    2. If a preliminary round is required, a draw using all Club B Teams in the first round will be made. 
    3. The first Club named in a match will play at home. 
    4. The final shall be played on a date and course selected by the County Championship Committee.  
    5. The draw will set the final day to play each round, but teams are expected to liaise and may arrange a match on any mutually convenient earlier date.
