The U18’s were playing their 2nd match of the season away to S&H at Church Stretton GC. It was a blustery day high up in hills of Church Stretton, Shropshire, and our young Worcestershire team were eager to perform well, on an interesting golf course.
The foursomes matches proved to be difficult for the Worcs pairings with some of the players having not played this very quirky course before, against an S&H team who were well averse to the course and conditions. The Worcs team battled to the end with some close matches but S&H won all 4 morning matches and went into lunch with a convincing 4-0 lead.
The singles matches were a different storey with Worcs coming out strong; Harry Fall was in inspired form winning his match 7&5 soon followed by Captain Teddy Fee who put his match away winning 3&1. Harry Evans was next in winning 4&2 and 2 halves from Callum Jones and George Stephens meant the afternoon singles were halved at 4-4, which meant S&H won the match 8-4 overall.
Congratulations goes to S&H and we wish them well for the remainder of the season.
Thanks to all the parents who supported the team. My thanks also goes to Mark Evans for his valuable contribution and support throughout the day and to Church Stretton Golf club for being fabulous hosts and in particular the catering staff for keeping us fed throughout the day.
We look forward to our next match against Derbys on 13th July
