2025 Greg Lawlor Ironman Tournament Rules
Format: 18 holes of two man scramble stroke play. Each player on the team tees off on a hole. After both players have hit their tee shots, the team selects the best shot, and both players then play their subsequent shots from that chosen spot. This process continues until the ball is successfully holed. For each shot aside from balls lying on the green, the team is permitted one club length no closer to the hole from which to hit their shot. The cut cannot change when taking your club length relief (ie. can’t move from the rough to the fairway even if it is within the one club length).
There is a four putt maximum rule for this tournament (four putts per player per team). For example, if you are putting for birdie on a hole, the maximum score you can make is double bogey.
Tees: Play will be from the Blue tees for all competitors. There are special tees for this tournament, the hole number for these tees is painted between the markers:
- Hole 1 - To the left of cart compound
- Hole 2 and 3 - Hole 2 is the far back left tee box and the tee box for Hole 3 is directly to the right of that. Please hit tee shot for hole number 3 while waiting for second green to clear to aid with pace of play
- Hole 4 - Next to cart path to the left of third green. If you hit the flag poles or power lines, you must rehit
- Hole 5 - Back middle portion of 7th tee box
- Hole 10 - Behind driving range near practice green
- Hole 13 - Behind the 11th green to the left side
- Hole 17 - To the right of 16th green
- Hole 18 - Behind old putting green to left of 17th green
Out of Bounds: Defined by white stakes and chain link property fences on 2/3/4/5 and the parking lot and paved roadway on 3/9. The driving range to the left side of 10 is not considered out of bounds in this tournament.
Penalty Areas: Areas marked with red stakes are to be treated as lateral penalty area and relief may be taken according to Rule 17.1.
Ditches: Any drainage ditch not marked as penalty areas (red stakes or paint) will be considered a french drain. Free relief of one club length will be given from the nearest point no closer to the hole.
Ground Under Repair: Ground under repair will be marked by green signs. The ditch/dug up area on the right side of the 11th hole is considered ground under repair. If your ball ends up in these areas, you may take relief according to Rule 16.1.
Practice (Rule 5.5)
5.5 - Between holes in Stroke Play: Local Rule !-2 is in effect and Rule 5.5b is modified in this way: Between the play of two holes, a player must not:
- Make any practice stroke on or near the putting green of the hole just completed, or
- Test the surface of that putting green by rubbing the putting green or a rolling a ball
Ties: In the event of a tie for the tournament winner, there will be a sudden death playoff starting on hole number 1 and looping on holes 1-3 until there is a winner.
