2. Format & Conditions of Entry
South African Senior Open (SASO) will be played in accordance with the rules and regulations set out by the R&A in 54-hole Strokeplay event for Professionals, who are 50 years of age or older on 10th December 2025, with 18 holes being played on each of the days of 10th, 11th & 12th December 2025.
The starting field size will be limited to 64 professional and 64 amateur players. There will be a cut after the second day of play to the leading 40 professionals and ties.
Pro-am Teams Competition
The Pro-Am Team’s competition will be played concurrently with the main event on 10th & 11th December 2025, and details are in section 12 below.
Professional prize fund:
This tournament will carry a minimum prize fund of R750,000
3. Conditions, Exemptions and Pre-Q for Entry into the Starting Draw
- All professionals must check their exemption status on the SA Legends Tour Website. Entry fee for Professionals is R1,000 and entry to be made via email to entries@sunshinelegendstour.com
- Should there be more than 64 entries, there will be a Pre-Q on a date & venue to be confirmed once all entries are closed on the 19th November.
- All amateurs who enter personally or through their corporate sponsor must do so through the Tournament Director, Pat Lowth at email entries@sunshinelegendstour.com or on the entry form below.
4. Practice Day and Practice Facilities
The official practice days are Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th December 2025.
The Practice Range is available from Monday 8th at no cost to the players for the duration of the tournament.
5. Registration
- Amateur Pro-Am registration: will be available from 08:00 daily at the Golf Club.
6. Entry Fee, Withdrawals and Refunds
- Amateur participants must enter by email to entries@sunshinelegendstour.com
- Entry fee is R 4,000 per player for both days .
- Withdrawals BEFORE 18:00 hours on 19th November 2025; a full refund will be possible.
7. Catering
A Grab & Go snack and soft drink will be available to all players after 9 holes during the tournament, without causing undue delay. Fruit and water will be freely available on the 1st and 10th tees throughout the event.
8. Caddies, Motorised Carts, Trolleys, Range Finders
There may be not enough caddies/carts available at the Club during the event. Currently, carts are available for hire to players R400.00 per cart per round. Caddies will be available at R500.00 per round minimum. This confirms that all these costs will be for the player’s account.
Those competitors requiring a caddie or a cart for sharing should liaise directly with the Club on 044 533 2132 in this regard, as soon as possible to ensure a possible allocation.
Carts may be used by all competitors on all days, and range finders are allowed without slope adjustments.
All tee time groups will only be allowed two carts (per 4 Ball) on the Pro-Am days; therefore, sharing may be necessary. Again, it is the players’ responsibility to organise his/her own cart booking.
Players may elect to walk and encouraged to do so.
10. SA Legends Tour/Tee-Time Draws
There will be SA Legends Tour members on the Event Committee.
The Tournament Director is Pat Lowth and will be responsible for all rulings and officiating alongside other nominated persons.
The draw and tee times for the first round will be made available on the
website and the Club notice board from 12:00hrs on 9th December 2025. An email/WhatsApp will also be sent advising competitors of the same and for subsequent rounds.
All event disputes of any nature will be handled by the TD and his decision.will be final.
11. Play Off and Completion of the Event
In the event of a Pro-Am day not being completed, the TD will decide on further procedures and details after consultation with the event committee.
12. Prize Giving.
The Prize giving for the Pro-am Teams Competition will take place at 6.30pm on Thursday 11th December 2025.
There is compulsory attendance required at the function by all the professionals playing in the Pro-Am field.
The leading amateur in the main event will also receive a prize and a medal.
13. Pro-Am Teams Event
- These will take place on 10th & 11th December 2025.
- 64 Professionals will team up with 64 amateurs in teams of two. The teams’ competition will be a Four Ball Alliance with the best two scores to count on each hole. Tee times will be distributed accordingly.
- The professional competitors play off a scratch handicap and their amateur partners (male or female) off their official club handicaps. The players gross and Alliance scores are to be recorded for each hole.
- Prize Giving: Pro-Am Team prizes to 3rd place overall, plus closest to the pin on all short hole’s and longest drive, on the fairway, on the 18th hole for amateurs only on both days.
- Official functions:
- 11th December 2025: Prizegiving Dinner from 6.30pm,
- 12th December 2025: Professional prize giving +/- 2pm at the clubhouse.
- All amateur players in the Pro-Am days will receive a gift bag and halfway house snack and cooldrink.
- The club is a cashless environment for purchasing.
