Tuesday Medal No.1 - 05/05/2026
Yesterday saw the opening Tuesday Medal of the 2026 season and a fantastic field of 89 players took to the course in an attempt to strike an early marker in the FerEx.
Our overall victor was Lee Deehan who offset a couple of poor holes with 8 nett birdies and a nett eagle in his round of 83(+12) nett 65(-6) to complete a 2 shot victory.
1st Class
On what was a tricky day for scoring the 1st class was a tight affair which saw Andrew Reid edge out Christopher McEwan on the better inward half after both had posted nett 69(-2). For Andrew an up and down front nine saw him nett (L) at the turn but a more sedate back nine with 3 nett birdies against a solitary dropped shot proved the catalyst for victory. Christopher will possibly feel he left a couple out there but his gross 77(+6) was a very solid start to the season. Rounding out the top 3 was Alastair Mars who edged a 6-way tie at nett(-1), his fast finish 16 through 18 proving the difference maker.
2nd Class
The aforementioned Lee Deehan was the winner of the 2nd Class. Second spot went to Lachie Cunningham following his round of 89(+18) nett 67(-4). An excellent round and although I'm sure he'll be a little disappointed with his last couple of holes its another positive season starter. In 3rd place was Stephen Adam who posted 86(+15) nett 68(-3), a true mixed bag as he matched Lee's 8 nett birdies and nett eagle however offset with 4 nett bogies and nett triple at the 6th. With some of the early season form on display I think we could be seeing some scary scoring and more than a few handicap adjustments.
Scratch
The dilemma with this reporting is how to comment on your own success without appearing wildly egotistical. All I'll say is I'm incredibly grateful to the multitude of players who climbed to the top of the leader board and somehow faltered over the closing holes to allow my early morning score of 70(-1) to be good enough on countback over both Josh Beatt and Davie Miller. A solid if unspectacular round however punctuated by the least celebrated ace in history at 7 as I genuinely had no idea if it had gone in or through the green. Josh continues to be one of the more exciting players to watch highlighted by his 6 birdies, 3 bogies, 1 double, proving his golf is never boring and finally Davie who put on a short game clinic until an uncharacteristic poor finish.
Tuesday FerEx
All that means that our early leaders in the FerEx categories are Lee Deehan(nett) and Michael Hart Jnr(Scratch).
Thanks to all who played and hopefully we'll continue to see the increased numbers throughout the season.
