VOLUNTEER ROLES
Starters Assistant
Description: Assists with starter duties on the starting tees.
Key Responsibility: Ensure bibs with the correct names are available at the tee for distribution before play begins. Unused bibs should be organised in a separate pile and returned to the Caddy Bib Volunteers in the Volunteer Headquarters after all players have teed off. Responsible for having adequate fruit and water on the starting tee prior to the first group's tee time.
Attributes: A friendly and approachable demeanour. Ability to stand for 2 hours at a time.
Live Hole Scorers
Description: Positioned at the back of each green, scorers record and input scores for each group.
Key Responsibility: Maintain accurate score records for each playing group and enter scores into the provided PGA PDA (scoring device) at the end of each group.
Attributes: A solid knowledge of golf. Attention to detail and ability to monitor player scores. Able to use a handheld scoring device (training will be provided). Maintains a non-disruptive presence with playing groups.
Walking Scorer
Description: Allocated to each playing group, walker scorers keep the score and statistics of the players in their designated group.
Key Responsibility: Keeping accurate scores and statistics of each playing group. Providing score information by entering the scores into the supplied PGA PDA, at the conclusion of each hole.
Attributes: A solid knowledge of golf. Attention to detail and ability to monitor player scores and statistics throughout the game. Ability to use a handheld scoring device (training will be provided). A calm and non-intrusive approach to ensure minimum impact on playing group. Ability to walk 18 holes.
Carry Board Walker
Description: Carry score board for the leading player groups.
Key Responsibility: Carry large mobile score boards for leading player groups, ensuring good visibility for spectators and players. Liaise with Walker Scorer to update score board after each hole is completed.
Note: When player’s score is event par the number displayed should be a “0”.
Attributes: Preference is for strong volunteers who are able to carry the boards for 18 holes. Harness with holder is provided.
On Course Leaderboard Attendant
Description: Maintain static Leaderboard on the 15th Hole (Location TBA).
Key Responsibility: Ensure leaderboards are up-to-date with current player scores, at all times across the tournament. Ensure end of day results are posted to the leaderboards, in preparation for next day’s play. Assist Hole Marshal with player walkways and crowd control if required.
Attributes: Attention to detail and ability to update leaderboards in a timely and efficient manner. Ability to use a handheld device like a mobile phone or tablet (training will be provided). Ability to work in a team (2 people per leaderboard are rostered at any one time).
Practice Fairway Attendant
Description: Attend to the players on the Practice Fairway.
Key Responsibilities: Hand out practice balls. Pick up balls with safe pick up equipment. Keep patrons away from the players. Refill water buckets for club cleaning. Monitor drink levels.
Attributes: Must have sound knowledge of the game of golf. A friendly and outgoing personality.
Drinks Distribution
Description: Distribute drinks around the course.
Key Responsibility: Ensure that drink barrels at tees are stocked for players and caddies. Stock drink fridges at various locations. Provide volunteer course Marshals with drinks as required.
Attributes: A friendly and approachable demeanour. Reasonably fit as lifting of drinks and ice is required. Ability to drive large golf cart comfortably on the course without interrupting play or harming the course. A calm and non-intrusive approach to ensure minimum impact on playing groups.
Hole Marshal
Description: Managing public and player walkways near allocated hole.
Key Responsibility: Marshals are predominantly responsible for crowd control and noise control.
Attributes: Ability to give clear and concise direction to spectators. A loud controlled voice with suitable cut-through to gain attention when required. Ability to think and act logically with player and spectator safety in mind. Sound knowledge and etiquette of the game of golf.
Clubhouse Carpark Attendant
Description: Assist Carpark Management.
Key Responsibility: Check access passes and provide guidance for people ensuring maximum number of cars are placed into available space. Ensure safety of all people utilising public car park areas.
Attributes: Ability to give clear directions to drivers. Willingness to work with general public. Ability to stand for long periods of time with periods of down time during the day.
Public Carpark Attendant
Description: Assist Carpark Management.
Key Responsibility: Provide guidance for people ensuring maximum number of cars are placed into available space. Ensure safety of all people utilising public car park areas. Direct visitors to the shuttle pick up/drop off point.
Attributes: Ability to give clear directions to drivers. Willingness to work with general public. Ability to stand for long periods of time with periods of down time during the day.
Public Carpark Shuttle Bus Driver
Description: Driving spectators and guests to and from the public carpark and the golf course.
Key Responsibility: Driving spectators and guests to and from the public carpark and the golf course throughout tournament in sponsor provided courtesy cars.
Attributes: A friendly and welcoming demeanour. Drivers are often the first point of contact for the tournament and seen by the players as the ‘face’ of the event. Current full drivers licence (no L or P plates). Over 25 year of age. Ability to drive safely and responsibly in all conditions. No alcohol or drug intake whilst rostered on duty.
Volunteer HQ
Description: Assist the Volunteer Coordinator.
Key Responsibility: Volunteer registration. Filing of volunteer documentation. Uniform packing and distribution. Other tasks as required by the Volunteer Coordinator.
Attributes: Strong attention to detail and good administration skills. A friendly and outgoing personality.
Hole-in-One Videographer
Description: Film each player teeing off the Hole-In-One hole.
Key Responsibility: Set up and operate the provided video camera at the designated hole for the duration of play. Film every player’s tee shot, tracking the ball through the air and continuing to record until it comes to rest. Ensure that each shot is clearly and fully captured to meet insurance requirements. Maintain awareness of the pace of play and be ready to film each group as they arrive.
Attributes: Basic knowledge of golf (e.g. understanding the flow of play, what to expect on the tee box). Confidence in operating a camera (training on the specific equipment will be provided). Good focus and attentiveness to ensure every shot is filmed correctly. Ability to stand for extended periods, with stretches of downtime between groups. Reliability and professionalism as you are responsible for critical footage. Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ticketing Assistant
Description: Assist Ticketing Management.
Key Responsibility: Greet spectators and provide friendly, helpful customer service at the entry point. Scan and validate tickets using provided equipment (training will be given). Distribute wristbands, lanyards, or passes as required. Answer basic questions about the event, direct guests to amenities, and resolve minor entry issues. Monitor the entry area to maintain orderly lines and a smooth flow of spectators.
Attributes: Friendly, approachable, and confident engaging with the public. Comfortable using a handheld scanner or tablet (training will be provided). Good communication and problem-solving skills. Able to stand for extended periods.
Caddy Bibs
Description: Distribute to & collect bibs from player’s caddy.
Key Responsibility: Distribute caddy bibs to the Starters Assistant on the 1st and 10th tees. Collect bib from caddy at conclusion of round at 9th or 18th green.
Ensure that ALL bibs with the correct names are at the tee ready for distribution at beginning of play. Ensure that bibs are returned to Volunteer Headquarters at the conclusion of play.
