G3C SA Local Rules Modification
NOTICE TO PLAYERS
The Rules of Golf as approved by the United States Golf Association and the R&A govern play. These Local Rules and Terms of the Competition are in addition to the USGA Rules of Golf. These local rules and conditions do not supersede any local rules on the course scorecard. Unless otherwise noted, the penalty for breach of a local rule is the general penalty.
COMPETITION: All competitions will be stroke play, unless otherwise defined by the Tournament Director.
Tee Markers: G3C SA will normally play one tee marker up from the tips, unless otherwise defined by tournament directors. Golfers 65 & older can declare to play one additional tee marker up. This must be declared to the tournament director prior to competition, and once declared must remain the same throughout the competition year.
Scoring: All scores will be entered by one player in each foursome / group using GROSS score into Golf Genius. A second golfer will keep an additional scorecard. Scores must be verified between at least two golfers in each foursome prior to finalizing the scores in Golf Genius.
Double Par is the highest score that can be taken. The max score on a Par 3 is 6; Par 4 is an 8; and Par 5 is 10.
All putts must be holed, no “gimmes” of any length.
You must play your ball as it lies unless a lift clean and replace is granted by the tournament director with G MEN Exception below.
G3C SA Exception
Rock and Tree Roots - If a player’s ball lies in the general area (not penalty area) and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed tree rocks that are in the fairway or with two club length from the fairway, the player may take free relief within one club length of the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole.
Note 1: Free relief is only allowed if the tree root or rock interferes with the golfer's ball or swing.
Note 2: Free relief is NOT authorized if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.
Sprinkler head within two club lengths of the putting green – If a golfer is putting and the golfer’s ball is within two club lengths of the sprinkler head, and the sprinkler head is in the golfer’s line of play within two club lengths of the green, the golfer may take free relief by dropping the ball no closer to the hole, within one club length of the original spot where the sprinkler head is no longer in the line of play.
Note 3: Please notify playing competitors prior to taking free relief.
Penalty Areas:
Out of Bounds – Defined by the line between the course-side points, at ground level, of white stakes and fence posts. A ball that crosses any road defined as out of bounds and comes to rest beyond that road is out of bounds, even though it may lie on another part of the course.
If your ball is lost or out of bounds, you may take stroke-and-distance relief by adding one penalty stroke and playing a ball from where the previous stroke was made (see Rule 14.6).
Or
Model Local Rule E-5 in effect
The player may proceed as follows rather than proceeding under stroke and distance.
For two penalty strokes, the player may take relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in this relief area.
Two Estimated Reference Points:
a. Ball Reference Point: The point where the original ball is estimated to have come to rest on the course or last crossed the edge of the course boundary to go out of bounds.
b. Fairway Reference Point: The point of fairway of the hole being played that is nearest to the ball reference point but is not nearer the hole than the ball reference point.
You may drop anywhere within one club length lateral of this reference point.
Hazard area - Your ball is in a penalty area when any part of it lies on or touches the ground or anything else inside the edge of the hazard area or is above the edge or any other part of the hazard area.
You may either play the ball as it lies without penalty or play a ball from outside the hazard area by taking relief.
Note 4: When your ball is in a hazard or penalty area, there is no relief for interference by an abnormal course condition, an embedded ball, or an unplayable ball. This includes Rocks & tree roots.
Abnormal Course Conditions (Including Immovable Obstructions)
a. Ground Under Repair:
i. Areas completely encircled with white lines.
ii. French drains.
iii. Bunker liners. Interference does not exist if the liner interferes with only the player’s stance.
iv. Seams of cut turf – Model Local Rule F-7 is in effect.
v. Damage made by animals (hog, skunk, and the like)
Model Local Rule F-10 is in effect.
b. Immovable obstructions
i. White-lined areas tying into an obstruction are treated as part of the obstruction.
ii. When landscaped or garden areas (flower beds, shrubbery or the like) are completely encircled by an obstruction, the obstruction and the landscaped area are treated as one abnormal course.
iii. Stakes, ropes, wires, or other objects supporting trees or tree limbs, provided they are not closely attached. The tree or tree limb is not part of the obstruction.
iv. Where the outside edge (non-golf course side) of a road or path defines out of bounds, the road or path is an obstruction condition.
Model Local Rule F-5 is in effect and is modified as follows:
For a ball in the general area, relief is allowed only when both the ball and the immovable obstruction lie in an area cut to fairway height or less, the immovable obstruction may be on the putting green
Any additional modification or updates will be briefed prior to the round by the tournament directors or sent via Golf Genius.
