Official Rules & Procedures

1) Match Play Format Only (No Stroke Play Concurrently)
  1. The White Classic is a Match Play competition (4-ball / partner’s better ball).

  2. This match may NOT be played at the same time as a Stroke Play round or any other concurrent competition.

  3. When you are playing a White Classic match, you are playing Match Play only—the match begins on Hole #1 and ends when the match is decided (or after the playoff procedure if tied).

  4. Any attempt to “mix” formats (e.g., continuing the round as a stroke-play score for another event) is not permitted and may result in disqualification.

2) Rules of Play / Tees / Winter Rules

  • Play will follow USGA Rules, as amended by local rules.

  • “Winter Rules” will NOT be in effect unless specifically authorized by the Greens Chairman and communicated in detail by the committee on the day.

  • Tees: White permanent tee markers, except Hole #1 (tee off from the movable markers as requested by LV).

3) Format

  • Single elimination match play tournament

  • 4-ball (better ball): each player plays their own ball; the team’s best net score on each hole counts.

  • All matches must be completed by September 30, 2026.

4) Handicap / Index Used

  • Handicaps will be based on your Los Verdes Index at the start of the round.

  • Indexes may be adjusted during the tournament.

  • We will use Golf Genius for scorecards, scoring, posting, and bracket updates.

5) Scheduling Responsibility (Both Teams)

  • Both teams are responsible for coordinating and securing a tee time.

  • Every player must be flexible and arrange his schedule to play each match by the round deadline.

  • For subsequent rounds: the team that plays last must notify their next opponent within 24 hours of winning.

  • If the match is not scheduled by the following Friday, you may receive a warning to schedule immediately.

  • If a match is not completed by the deadline, all four players may be disqualified, pending review by the Satellite Tournament Chairman.

  • The next bracket team would then receive a bye for the succeeding match.

6) Early Match Finish (Do NOT Post Remaining Holes)

If your match ends early (example: win 4 & 3), you may play out, but DO NOT enter scores for the remaining holes (e.g., holes 16–18 in the example). The scoring rules allow proper posting, and GHIN will calculate the correct differential.

7) Golf Genius Scoring / Do Not Post Your Own Score

  • We are using Golf Genius (GGID) for scoring this year.

  • Upon completion of the round, notify the Satellite Tournament Chairman the same day.

  • DO NOT POST YOUR SCORE. The Satellite Tournament Chairman will post through Golf Genius.

8) Scorecard Verification (Both Teams) — Required

To reduce complaints about sandbagging:

  • Both teams must complete a scorecard and turn them in individually.

  • Both teams must sign the scorecard.

  • Send a copy of your scorecard to:

  • The Satellite Tournament Chairman will validate the scorecards and post.

  • Failure to notify or send scorecards is cause for disqualification of your next match.

9) Update Pairings Sheet

Winners must update the White Classic pairings sheet located in the locker room entryway.

10) Ties / Playoff Options

If tied after 18 holes:

  • Continue in sudden death, starting on Hole #1, using the same handicaps. Coordinate with the starter for continued play.

Alternative option: Card-Off (by agreement only)

  • Both teams must agree to a card-off before the start of play.

  • Card-off method: most holes won on the last 9, then last 6, then last 3, then the 18th hole if still tied.

  • Availability of one team member does not force a card-off.

Pace of Play Policy (Strictly Enforced)

We are enforcing a maximum 4:30 pace of play for all tournament play (including satellite tournaments).

  • Failure to meet the 4:30 pace results in a 3-month tournament suspension, including all satellite tournaments.

  • This effectively means you and your team will be DISQUALIFIED from the Classic tournament.

  • Matches will not be postponed for 3 months.

Even if you are not playing during a monthly tournament, the 4:30 max will be enforced. Board members and other members play throughout the week and may report slow play through LV and the board. If you are more than one hole behind, you are out of position—even if your time seems “okay” (example: 9 holes in 2:15). Complaints may result in action up to and including disqualification.

If you don’t like these rules or can’t adhere to them, do not sign up.

If You Are Out of Position — Simple Rules to Catch Up

  1. Pay attention and take action immediately if you’re falling behind.

  2. Use the 3-minute lost ball rule. If there’s any chance you won’t find it, play a provisional.

  3. Play ready golf (especially when carts/walkers are mixed). Read putts as soon as you reach the green.

  4. 45 seconds once you arrive at your ball to play (discussion, practice swings, strategy included).

  5. Once you and one opponent finish the hole, move to the next tee and tee off. Your partner and the other opponent can finish up/give putts.
