The Valentine Invitational celebrates the rich golf history, culture and facilities of Hermitage Country Club by providing a premier tournament experience that supports the region's elite Mid-Amateur and Senior golf communities. We cannot wait to welcome a high-quality, nationwide field to Hermitage for the 84th playing of the Valentine. The Valentine is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), Amateur Golf Info (AGI) and Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) points event.

Last year, John Hunter (Houston, TX) rolled in a 30-foot par putt on the 18th green to win the 83rd Valentine by 1 shot over (now 2x) reigning New York State Mid-Amateur champion Kyle Downey (Rochester, NY). Downey entered the final round with a 2-shot lead over Hunter, but some shaky iron play from Downey and typically-steady play from Hunter resulted in the pair standing on 17th tee tied for the lead at -12. In his own words, Downey made a sloppy bogey on 17 from the middle of the fairway, which gave Hunter his first lead on the 18th tee. Both Downey and Hunter missed the green on their approaches to the water-surrounded 18th green. After Hunter left his delicate chip shot about 30 feet short, Downey chipped his own delicate chip to within a couple feet for a tap-in par. With the stage set, Hunter calmly rolled his lengthy par putt right in the gut and the Texan threw a right punch in excitement to the roar of the Valentine crowd. Hunter finished at -12 (204), Downey at -11 (205), and 2017 champion Jordan Utley finished third at -10 (206).

Defending Senior division champion Scott Shingler played exceptional golf through 36 holes (64-67, -13), but it was Brian Quackenbush (Aiken, SC) who made a stunning back-nine rally to overtake Shingler. Quack closed in 31 (final round 67), including a 10-footer for birdie on 18, to win the Senior division at -12 (204) over Shingler (-11, 205) and 2023/81st Senior division champion Steve Serrao (-10, 206).
