Eclectic Tournament — Rules & Format

 

Overview

This event is a gross‑score eclectic tournament, meaning players compete using raw scores with no handicap strokes applied. Over six days, each player builds one final scorecard made from their best score on each hole across all rounds they play. Each round is another opportunity to improve individual holes. Only better scores replace previous ones; worse scores never count against you.

 

There will be a minimum of two competitive flights will be created based on handicaps at the close of registration:

Players compete only within their assigned flight.

 

Event Dates

 

Thursday, March 19th through Tuesday, March 24th, 2026

 

Eligibility & Sign‑Up

• Maximum of 6 rounds (one per day).
• Sign‑up closes Thursday, March 17th at 6:00 PM.
• Men play from the White Tees.
• Ladies play from the Red Tees.
• Flights will be assigned after sign‑up closes, based on handicaps.

 

How Eclectic Scoring Works

• Your first round becomes your starting scorecard.
• Each new round is compared hole‑by‑hole to your current best scores.
• If you score better on a hole, that new score replaces the old one.
• If you score worse, nothing changes.
• Your final tournament score is the sum of your lowest gross scores on all 18 holes across the event.
• Winners are determined separately within each flight

 

Minimum Holes Required

A round counts only if you complete at least 14 of 18 holes. You may have up to 4 “X‑outs” per round. You would use an "X-out" if you are only trying to improve your eclectic round and can no longer improve on your score. (It is recommended to play all 18 regardless of your score)

 

Daily Play Requirements

• You may play only one tournament round per day.
• You must play with at least 1 playing partner (does not have to be participating in the event and preferred not to be a spouse or partner)
• Before starting, you must declare to your playing partners that the round is an official tournament round for the eclectic.
• All rounds must be played on the designated course during the event window.

 

Scorecards

• Official tournament scorecards will be available at the Starter’s Shack.
• There will be one card for each day, and only these official cards will be accepted.
• After completing your round:

• Sign your card.
• Have one playing partner initial it.
• Take a photo of the signed card for your records.
• Place the completed card in the green tournament score box at the Starter.

*after your first round, each subsequent scorecard will record your best score on each hole recorded

 

Daily Deadline

• All cards will be collected at 8:00 PM each day.
• Cards submitted after 8:00 PM will not be accepted for that day.

 

Scoring & Leaderboard

• The committee will enter all daily scores into Golf Genius.
• Players may follow their progress on the Golf Genius Leaderboard, which will show their evolving eclectic card.

 

Simple Example of Eclectic Scoring

Hole 7 is a par 4. Over three days, you record the following:

• Day 1: Score of 7 → becomes your starting score for Hole 7.
• Day 2: Score of 5 → replaces the 7, because 5 is better.
• Day 3: Score of 6 → no change, because 5 remains your best.
• Day 4: Score of 4 → replaces the 5, because 4 is better.
• Day 5: Score of 3 → replaces the 4, because 3 is better.
• Day 6: Score of 8 → no change, because 3 remains your best.

Your final eclectic score for Hole 7 is 3, even though you played the hole six different ways. This process repeats for all 18 holes across all rounds you play.
