97th New England Amateur Championship

GREATHORSE (MA) | July 14 - 16, 2026

 


 

Eligibility: Entries are open to amateur golfers who hold membership in a club belonging to one of the six New England State Golf Associations and have an up-to-date USGA/GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 6.4.

Schedule: 54-holes stroke play (18 holes per day) with 144 players. The 60 low players (and ties) after 36-holes will advance to the final round. 

 

Practice Round InformationPlease read the full practice round note below prior to contacting GreatHorse. 

 

  • A practice round can be booked by contacting the Pro Shop (413-566-2005) and identifying yourself as a competitor in the field. 
  • Dates & Times will be based on club availability and at the host club's discretion. 
    • No practice rounds will be available before 1:00pm on weekends. 
    • No practice rounds will be available on Monday, July 13th. 
  • The cost of a practice round is a mandatory cart/trail fee of $30 cash or credit. 
  • Practice rounds are for competitors only. No guests, caddies, guardians, spectators, etc. Players may play just 1 ball during the practice round, and must play from tee markers on the course. 
  • The Championship proper will be played from approximately 7,100 yards - Black/Red combo tees. 
  • Players who wish to do so may walk the course (no clubs or golf balls) after 5:00pm on Monday, July 13th.

 
Caddies & Automotive Transportation: Players may use caddies during play. A player is not required to employ a caddie for any round of the competition. Players shall not use automotive transportation during play. The optional condition prescribed in Appendix I of the Rules of Golf shall be in effect. Push/Pull Carts are permitted. 

 

Practice Facilities: The practice facilities will open at 6:30am each day of the Championship. 

Food/Beverage: The NEGA will be providing a complimentary luncheon on July 14, 15, and 16 for all competitors.

Starting Times: Championship Starting Times & Player Information will be emailed to all competitors and can be found by clicking the link above. 

Prizes: Winner will receive the Harry B. McCracken, Jr. Trophy, and merchandise certificate. Merchandise certificates are only redeemable at the host club.

Inclement Weather/Cancelled Round Stipulation: The NEGA reserves the right to alter any of the conditions and schedules herein.

Restrictions: If the Championship course is declared unplayable and as a result it is not possible to complete the 54 holes of play in the period in which the Championship is scheduled, the Championship will not be extended beyond the last scheduled day and the winner shall be the individual who returns the lowest score for the number of stipulated rounds played. The Committee may institute a cut in order to play the last stipulated round.

Withdrawal/Refund Policy
Competitors, who have submitted an entry for an NEGA event and wish to withdraw for any reason, MUST notify the NEGA office in writing (e-mail is acceptable and encouraged) or by phone. The qualified player payment will be refunded less a $20 administrative fee, regardless of reason, if the NEGA is notified in writing or by phone seven days prior to each event. Entry fee will be refunded less 50% for any withdrawals received less than seven days prior to each event. No refund will be processed for a withdrawal notification that is received within 48 hours of the scheduled date of an event.
