FORMAT OF PLAY

 

 

GOVERNANCE:

 

The Coherent Pro-Am is a PGA TOUR Champions event. Yardages, hole locations, starting times, weather-related decisions, and the assessment of penalties are at the discretion of the Tournament Committee and are final. 

 

 

TEES:

 

BLUE: PGA TOUR Champions Professionals

BLACK: Male Amateurs

WHITE: Female Amateurs

COMPETITION:

 

The Coherent Pro-Am is an 18-hole Gross/Net (Gross Bias) Shamble competition.


The professional shall play his own ball throughout the round. The team score shall be the better score of the professional or any team member's score.


Shamble Format:

  • All players will hit a tee shot from their designated tees.
  • The amateurs shall select a tee shot to play the remainder of the hole from
  • From the selected tee shot, each amateur will place a ball within one-club length, from that location, they will play their own ball until it is either holed, or it can no longer better the team score.
  • If the selected tee shot lies in a penalty area or a bunker, the ball must be played within that penalty area or bunker. The bunker may be raked between shots.
  • From the green, the ball must be played from the selected location.
  • On par 3’s, the professionals' tee shot can be used by amateurs.

 

The professional will be responsible for the official scorecard. The scorecard is considered final once signed and returned after completion of the round. All results are final at the conclusion of the awards ceremony.

 

 

HANDICAPPING:

 

Amateurs: Amateurs will be awarded 80% of their Player Handicap based on their current Handicap Index as of 6/1/2026. Playing Handicaps will not exceed 18.0. NOTE: It is the amateur’s responsibility to verify their correct handicap prior to the start of the round.

 

For amateurs without a GHIN ID,  participants will be assigned a tournament handicap based on their self-reported average score.
Less than 70 → Handicap: 0
70–80 → Handicap: 4
80–90 → Handicap: 8
90–100 → Handicap: 12
Greater than 100 → Handicap: 18 (maximum)


Professionals: Professionals will compete with a 0.0 course handicap index.

 

 

PACE OF PLAY:

 

All amateurs should pick up their ball anytime their score may no longer be better than the team’s net score.

 

 

TIES:

 

Ties are to be determined using the Most to least difficult hole method: This is a hole-by-hole tie-breaker, where ties will be broken, relative to par, by going from the most difficult hole based on the course stroke index rating, all the way to the least difficult hole until there is a winner.

 

 

AWARDS & SCORING:

 

Teams will compete for 1st and 2nd place prizes in both gross-scoring and net-scoring divisions, though each teams can win only one division. The scoring format for the pro-am will be One Best Ball net and One Best Ball gross. The professional’s score can be used in both divisions if it is the lowest score for the team. Any ties will be broken using the Tie Breaking System outlined above.

 

During the round, teams should keep track of their gross scores on their scorecard. Net scoring will be officially calculated post-event by the scoring administration team.
