Clarence Mild Captures 2018 TPGL Tour Championship

Wins Record 5th Title; Edges Bob Ward by 2 Strokes;

Hollander, Smales and Levy Round Out the Top 5

They say that when you develop a game plan to get what you want, you will develop a belief that you can get it.  So is the case with TPGL founder and now 5 time champion, Clarence Mild.  This weekend marked the conclusion of the 2018 TPGL Tour Championship where rounds 3 and 4 were played.  Mild, the 36 hole leader, shot 70 on Saturday at Shepherd's Crook and 71 on Sunday at the Arboretum for a 72 hole total of 275 - 10 under par.  Having won the tournament in 1974, 1979, 1981 and 1985, this title now gives him a record 5th.

"I had a game plan coming in to the event and it was about playing smart, safe and taking few risks.  I knew if I played to my number or a bit better, I would be in contention in the final round," said Mild.  His victory earned him the $300 gift merchandise award and the coveted TPGL Tour Trophy which will be presented to him at the TPGL Awards Banquet on November 10th.

Clarence Mild hits his pitch shot to the 18th hole at the Arboretum on Sunday.

"He has put a lot of effort into rebuilding his game since his season-long injury in 2017," said Danny Brown, "and is just shows what some hard work, practice and great course navigation can do for one's game.  He recognized his strengths and played to them beautifully."

Not to be overshadowed by Mild's 5th title is TPGL veteran Bob Ward who posted a 4 round total of 277 - 8 under par and fell 2 shots shy of his first title.  "It was a bit nerve wracking out there," said Ward, "I am not sure how the pro's can do this everyday but I gave it my all."

Mike Hollander also posted a terrific tournament highlighted by a 64 in the final round on Sunday and was 8 strokes back along with Rich Smales.

TPGL players gather around the 18th green to watch the closing groups finish their rounds.

Bob Ward's bid to catch Clarence Mild on the final hole comes up a bit short.  Still, all in all, a terrific tournament for Bob who posted his best finish since joining the TPGL in the early 90's.
