HEAD TO HEAD MATCHES
Location: All golf courses
Date: Season long - May through September
Registration Opens: 4 weeks prior to each TPGL round
FORMAT
For this competition only, the TPGL is organized into three divisions based on handicaps. TPGL players compete in 8 head to head matches against players in their own flight (i.e. similar handicap). The schedule (who plays who for a given day) is 100% objective. The competition is net stroke play with 1 point awarded to the low score on the front nine, 1 point awarded to the low score on the back nine, and one point awarded to the low score for the 18 holes. The top 6 players (the most points earned) from each of the 3 flights are awarded a playoff spot.
HOW ARE THE MATCHES SCHEDULED?
A 100% OBJECTIVE approach is used. The schedule (who plays who for a given day) is based on player availability for that day, the available players’ handicap seeding within their own flight, who they have already played, and how many matches have they played that month. First, available players for the day for each flight are listed and ranked from low to high based on current TPGL handicaps. Then, the lowest handicap player in the flight is scheduled against the highest handicap player in the flight. The 2nd lowest handicap player in the flight is scheduled against the 2nd highest handicap player in the flight. The process is repeated until all players in the flight are scheduled. As a general rule of thumb, each player's TPGL schedule will consist of no more than 2 head to head matches in a given month.
WHAT'S AT STAKE?
This the first road to the playoffs. The top 6 players (the most points earned) from each of the 3 flights are awarded a playoff spot. The 18 playoff spots are based on a membership count of 48 players.
ELIGIBILITY
The tournament is open to all dues-paying members of the TPGL.
STARTING TIMES
Tee times for the Championship will be posted on the TPGL website 48 hours in advance.
CADDIES AND CARTS
Caddies and carts are permissible in all TPGL events - rain or shine unless otherwise instructed. Players are also allowed to walk and carry or walk and push a cart in all TPGL events.
PRIZES
Gift certificates are awarded to the winners of each match. Payouts are as follows:
- $20 available for each match won.
- To win the total merchandise associated with the head to head match, a player must earn at least 2 points.
- If both players earn 1 1/2 points each, the merchandise award is split 50-50.
TIES
In the event a match ends in a tie, players will split the purse and in the standings page, they will each be awarded 1 1/2 points.
At the conclusion of the head to head competition, if players are tied in the standings, their "head to head" net average score will be used as the first tie-breaker. The second tie-breaker will be their "season-long" net average score. The third tie-breaker will be their "money earned" in the four majors.
RAINOUT
In the event that a round is cancelled due to inclement weather, the match will be rescheduled. In a rescheduled date, the opponent of a player might be different than the player that was originally scheduled on the rain-out date due to a player's availability and their seeding.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Players may use Distance Measuring Devices in all TPGL events.
Non-metal spike policy is in effect.
