The 2017 TPGL Championship was the 47th Championship, held September 23-24 and October 1 at Foxford Hills, Shepherds Crook and the Arboretum GC. Andy Nathan, won his first TPGL championship with a historic one-stroke victory. He shot a final round 74 (+2), with a back nine of 36 (E), for a total 54 hole score of 217 (+2).

FINAL ROUND HIGHLIGHTS

In one of the most memorable and exciting final rounds in TPGL Championship history, four different players held at least a share of the lead in the final nine holes of the tournament. The back nine witnessed “high octane” and nearly simultaneously charges from Pat Healy, Jay Steinhilber and Ray Brehart. The excitement began when Jay eagled 11 and birdied 14 to grab a share of the lead after 14.  2001 TPGL Champion Ray put his game in high gear and birdied 11, 13 and 14 to also grab the lead after 14. Pat then decided to get in on the action and not only birdied 11, but also 15 and 16 and took over sole possession of the lead after 16. But Andy, as steady as can be, righted two bogeys on 15 and 16 with a clutch birdie on 17 and a closing par on 18, giving him the 1 shot victory.

A FIRST-CLASS GUY ALL THE WAY

In his acceptance speech at the Awards ceremony following the round, Andy considered the win a great honor. And, he talked about the privilege to be carrying the title for the next year, adding “winning golf tournaments is very special to me. And you can't really rank them, but I think it's obvious that this one stands out simply because of the history of the event, all of the great past champions, and the quality of the field.” ▲
