THE MAJORS
There are four Major Tournaments that are a part of the HPMC tournament schedule: The Player’s Championship, The Member/Member, The Club Championship/President’s Cup & The Holiday Classic. Winners of these events will be presented with the winner’s trophy, as well as having their picture displayed in The Major Champions picture frame and their name engraved on the Champions plaque for that event. To date, only two Harbour Pointe Members have completed the career “Grand Slam” by winning all four Major Championships: Steve Tibbetts and Ed Lee.
THE PLAYER’S CHAMPIONSHIP- Saturday & Sunday, April 27th & 28th, 2019
The Player’s Championship is open to all active HPMC Members, however, only the top 50 money leaders from the 2017 HPMC Season are eligible for the overall Championship and subsequent trophy. The tournament is a 36-hole stroke play event. Participants may choose their own pairings on Saturday (Day 1) with tee times ranging from 8 AM to 10 AM. Participants will be repaired by score and division on Sunday for the second round. (Top 50 players will play with other top 50 players and non-top 50 players will play with non-top 50 players). Players will have the option to play from either the Member (Green) Tee Markers or the White Tee Markers. Players must play all 36 holes from whichever set of tees they opt to play. Players opting to play from the White Tee Markers will not be eligible for Gross Prizes and will be subject to a 2 stroke handicap adjustment from their White Tee Course Handicap per USGA regulations. All players will receive 150 Rhodes Cup points for participating.
THE MEMBER/MEMBER CHAMPIONSHIP- Friday, Saturday & Sunday, June 28th-30th
The Member/Member Championship is regarded as the crown jewel of not just the Majors, but of all the tournaments on the HPMC schedule. Member’s partner together in order to form a 2 person team. Teams are divided into flights that consist of 6 teams each. (The maximum allowable course handicap differential between team members is 12). Each team will play five 9-hole matches (one each against all the other teams in their respective flight). Three of the matches will be played on Saturday and two of the matches will be played on Sunday. Teams will play for points with a total of 10 points awarded for each match. Teams will receive 1 point for winning a hole and ½ point for tying a hole and 1 point for winning a match and ½ point for tying a match. The team with the most accumulated points within each flight and 4 “wild card” teams (the teams with the two highest point totals that did not win their flight from flights 1-5 and 6-10) will qualify for the “Final 9”. The “Final 9” consists of the 14 aforementioned qualifying teams that will play 9 holes of 2-Man Best Ball. The team with the lowest net score is the Member/Member Champion. All players will receive 150 Rhodes Cup points for participating.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP & PRESIDENT’S CUP- Saturday & Sunday, August 24th & 25th
The Club Championship and President’s Cup are our Gross and Net Championships and are contested simultaneously. The Club Championship is a 36-hole stroke play event that is a gross only event, meaning that there is no net payout. The President’s Cup is a 36-hole stroke play event that is net only. Players have the option of playing in either the Club Championship OR the President’s Cup and must declare their intensions beforehand. The Club Championship is contested from the Blue Tees, no exceptions. Players competing in the President’s Cup have the option of playing from either the Member Tees or the White Tees. Players opting to play from the White Tee Markers will be subject to a 2 stroke handicap adjustment from their White Tee Course Handicap per USGA regulations. All players will receive 150 Rhodes Cup points for participating.
THE HOLIDAY CLASSIC- Saturday & Sunday, November 2nd & 3rd
The Holiday Classic is a 2-Man 36 hole event. The first 18 holes (Saturday) of the competition is a 2-Man Best Ball and the second 18 holes (Sunday) is a 2-Man Combined Competition. All scoring will utilize the Stableford Scoring system. The team with the highest gross point total is the Holiday Classic Gross Champion and the team with the highest net point total is the Holiday Classic Net Champion. Players will receive 90% of their course handicap for round 1 and 100% of their course handicap for round 2. (The maximum allowable course handicap differential between team members is 12). Players opting to play from the White Tee Markers will be subject to a 2 stroke handicap adjustment from their White Tee Course Handicap per USGA regulations. All players will receive 150 Rhodes Cup points for participating.
