We’re pleased to announce the qualifying details for the 2026 Men’s Oil City Cup, Fort McMurray’s premier competitive invitational event. All interested players are invited to register and compete for a spot on this year’s team.

 

Qualifying Dates & Details

Qualifier – Saturday, June 27 – Tee times begin at 1:00 PM

This is a competitive gross stroke play qualifier; tournament rules are in effect with play from the White Tees.

18 Hole Course will be Big River / Black Bear

Registration will close on Thursday, June 25th at midnight.

 

Qualifying Entry Fee: $50/player plus tax. (Includes post-round appetizers and drinks)

Qualifying event will award:

•  6 team spots

 

Qualifying Format

• 18 holes of stroke play
• The 6 lowest scores from each qualifier earn team spots
• 1 captain’s pick will complete the team

 

Selection Criteria Calculated

6 players have already earned automatic qualification through performance in the following 2025 FMGC events:

• FMGC Club Championship
• FMGC Men’s Open

Automatic selection was awarded to players who:

• Won either event
• Finished in the Top 3 of either event

 

Player Selections - Top 6 Spots

Brandon Doyle, Al Strong, Ben Farrington, Shane Williams, Scott Sinclair, Brett McKay

Spots 7 to 9 – FMGC’s 5 golf professionals will rotate play, having 3 of them play each day

Spots 10 to 15 (6 spots) –Filled from June 27th Qualifiers

Spot 16 – Captains Pick

 

2026 Oil City Cup Tournament Dates

July 31st – August 2nd

Rounds 1 & 3 at Fort McMurray Golf Club

Round 2 at Miskanaw Golf Club

 

Player Fee: $250 plus tax per player

(Includes 3 team shirts and 1 team hat)

 

Final Day Tradition

As part of the tradition of the event, players on the losing team are required to:

• Pay $100 cash to the opponent they played on the final day
• Cover cost of both dinners, gratuity for themselves and their opponent on final day
  • This tradition also applies to Alternates, Captains, and Assistant Captains
