Junior Golf On-Course Play Checklist
1. Safety & Awareness
- Knows to stay a safe distance from other golfers
- Understands when it is safe to hit
- Knows to yell "Fore!" if a ball may hit someone
- Knows to wait for the instructor/coach's signal before hitting
- Understands basic walking safety
2. Basic Golf Etiquette
- Stays quiet and still while others are hitting
- Rakes bunkers after use
- Repairs ball marks on the green
- Knows where to stand while others are hitting
- Understands that golfers should be ready to play when it is their turn
3. Playing the Hole
- Knows the basic order of play
- Can identify the teeing area
- Knows where to start the hole
- Can select an appropriate club with minimal help
- Can tee up their own ball
- Can count strokes correctly with some assistance
- Can move from shot to shot without constant direction
- Can finish a hole and move to the next tee
4. Green Skills
- Can identify the putting green
- Can mark and pick up their ball
- Can replace their ball correctly
- Can safely putt without interfering with another player
- Knows to remove their ball from the hole after finishing
- Understands that the next group should be able to play when their group is finished
5. Pace of Play
- Keeps up with the group
- Moves efficiently between shots
- Is ready when it is their turn
- Does not spend excessive time looking for a ball
- Understands that picking up is okay
- Knows how to keep pace even when they are having a difficult hole
- Can complete a hole within the time provided by the instructor
6. Independence
- Can carry/transport their own equipment
- Can manage their own golf balls and tees
- Can tee their ball without assistance
- Can choose a club without needing constant help
- Can locate their ball
- Can mark their score
- Can follow basic instructions from the instructor
- Can play several holes with limited adult assistance
