Terms of Competition

 

Irish Post-Primary Schools Championships, 2026-2027

1. Structure
The Championship is divided into two stages: 
a) Qualifying Rounds which will take place in each region in September or October at the start of each academic year. 
b) The Championship Final, which takes place in April each year at the conclusion of the relevant academic year. 

 

2. There will be four competition categories: 
a) Girls' Net Championship: Open to all female entrants who are Under-19 in the year of the Championship Final and have a Handicap Index of between 15.0 and 39.9 on the date of entry. 
b) Girls' Scratch Championship: Open to all female entrants who are Under-19 in the year of the Championship Final and have a Handicap Index of 14.9 or below on the date of entry. 
c) Boys' Net Championship: Open to all male entrants who are Under-19 in the year of the Championship Final and have a Handicap Index of between 10.0 and 19.9 on the date of entry.
d) Boys' Scratch Championship: Open to all male entrants who are Under-19 in the year of the Championship Final and have a Handicap Index of 9.9 or below on the date of entry.

 

3. Qualifying Round:
a) Qualifying rounds for each competition category will take place in each region. The number of qualifying rounds in each region will be determined by the region itself, based on previous years' entry numbers. 
b) The number of qualifying positions in each Championship will be 15 in total from all the Leinster venues and five each from the venues in the Ulster, Munster and Connacht regions. These places will be allocated on a pro-rata basis from within each region.
c) In the event of an oversubscription of entries in a venue, a waiting list will be drawn up based on handicap index at the close of entries. Entrants on this waiting list may be offered a place in another venue within the region. Where a venue is housing both Boys' and Girls' competitions, in the event of an undersubscription of one gender and an oversubscription of the other, additional places will be given to the oversubscribed gender. 
d) In all qualifying rounds in all championships, a prize will be awarded for the best individual net and gross score. 

 

4. Championship Final
a) The field for the Championship Final will consist of a maximum of 120 players. 
b) There will be no replacements of individual qualifiers, should they be unable to attend. 
c) In each category, gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the leading three players. In addition, the School of the winner of each of the four competitions will be awarded a pennant.

 

5. Form of Play
The form of play at all stages of the competition will be singles stableford.
