16th WV Mid-Amateur Championship Information

 

 

 

Eligibility: Entries are open to male amateur golfers with an active GHIN Handicap index through a WVGA Member Club, and who are 25 years of age or older by the first round of Championship.  Please Reference WVGA Policies and Procedures for further details.

 

Format: The championship will be 18 holes of stroke play qualifying followed by match play with the field being cut to the low 32 players. The Round of 32 will begin Monday afternoon immediately following the stroke play qualifying portion of the championship. Defending Champion is automatically exempt into #2 seed in Championship Match Play Bracket but if so wishes can try to qualify for the #1 seed.

 

Field Size: The maximum field size is 84 players

 

Practice Round: Practice rounds will be available on Sunday, October 20th beginning at 1:30 pm. Practice round rate for players is $117 + tax. Any player choosing to play their practice round on another day during the week must contact Pete Dye GC directly and is subject to availability. Players choosing to play a practice round on any other day than the designated Practice Round day will be subject to the normal guest fee of $187 + tax.

 

Championship Yardage: Approximately 7,000 yards

 

Player Registration: Players registration will begin at 6:30AM the morning of Monday, Ocotber 21st and will be located on the front patio of the clubhouse. Players are required to register by 7:45AM in order to receive all materials needed for the stroke play qualifying round as well as their tee gift. Announcements will be made at 7:45AM at the cart staging area and once completed players will be instructed to head to their starting holes for the 8:00AM shotgun start. 

 

Player Lunch: Players will be provided lunch following the stroke play qualifying portion of the championship.

 

Cart Fees: The player cart fee is included in your entry fee. *NEW*

 

Spectator Carts: Spectator carts will not be permitted during this championship with the exception of a spectator who can provide an issued and active Handicap Permit. Final decision will be made by the WVGA Executive Director or  Senior Director of Rules & Competitions. 

 

Caddies: Caddies are permitted during the championship. Players are responsible for supplying their own caddie. Caddies may ride in golf carts if it adheres to the WVGA cart policy and their is an available seat. * WVGA Cart Policy - there will be a maximum of 2 carts per group and 2 individuals per cart. *

 

Pairings: Pairings for stroke play qualifying will be released and updated on the WVGA website by 5:00PM on Thursday, Oct. 17th. Pairings will also be included in the Player Information that will be emailed to each player by Thursday, Oct. 17th. 

 

Awards / Gift Certificates: The champion and runner-up will both receive trophies. All quaterfinalist, semifinalist, runner-up, and champion will recieve gift certificates.

 

POY Points: State Player of the Year points will  be awarded to all players who advance to the match play portion of the championship. Player of the Year points list will be updated online immediately following the completion of play.

 

Electronic Measuring Devices: Electronic devices that measure distance only are permitted for this championship.

 

USGA Groove Condition of Competition (Not in Effect): The USGA groove rules effective January 1, 2010 are NOT in effect for this competition.

 

Score Posting: At the conclusion of the championship each players score will be automatically posted as a "T" or tournament score to the GHIN handicap system. Please do not enter your own scores from the competitve rounds as this will result in a double post.

 

Withdrawal Policy: In the event of a tournament withdraw; the player must notify the West Virginia Golf Association Office at 304-391-5000 no later than one week prior to the tournament. If withdraw is made prior to tournament deadline, the player may receive a refund regardless of reason less a $20 administrative fee. For a withdraw made after the entry deadline, the player may receive a refund only if player has experienced a sudden illness or injury, and only if the West Virginia Golf Association is notified prior to the first round of the tournament. All refund request must be submitted in writing to Chris Slack.
