Historical Context of Tournament:  The Sheeran Trophy originated in 1959 and was renamed in 1972 when its trophy was presented to the WGAM by Dr. and Mrs. Paul Sheeran of Winchester Country Club. The Sheeran Trophy Tournament is now conducted annually by Mass Golf.

 

Eligibility:  This tournament allows legally married partners (one must be female) to compete in a modified Foursome Stroke Play format against other couples.

 

Format:  Teams of two; 18 holes selected drives, alternate shot at 40% of combined handicaps. If the difference between the partners’ course handicaps exceeds 15 strokes, then the higher handicap will be adjusted.

 

Rules of Play:  The 2019 Rules of Golf are in effect and are supplemented by the  Mass Golf Hard Card. The Committee will provide any additional Local Rules needed at the tournament site. It is the individual player’s responsibility to know the Conditions of the Competition.

Golf Carts:  Golf carts are included in the Championship entry fee. Players are strongly encouraged to use golf carts during the tournament round. Walking & push carts are permitted at the host clubs’ discretion.  

 

Starting Time:  9:00 am Shotgun Start.  Please be at your golf cart and ready to play at 8:45 am.

 

Tees:  Men will play from the Blue Mass Golf tee markers with an approximate yardage of 6,299 yds.  Women will play from the Red Mass Golf tee markers with an approximate yardage of 5,048 yds.

 

Practice Facilities:  The use of the practice facilities is included in entry fee and will be open at 8:00 am. 

 

Rest Rooms:  Located in Club House, between 4 & 5 and 15 & 16. (Door code 51)

 

Food & Beverage Services:  A buffet lunch will be provided by Mass Golf for all competitors upon completion of the round.  A cash bar will be available.

 

On-Course Drinking Water:  Available in the Club House, between 4 & 5 and 15 & 16.

 

Awards:  The winners of this event will be determined by the lowest gross score and their names will be engraved on the permanent trophy. In the event of a tie for low gross, all winners’ names will be engraved on the Sheeran Trophy. Merchandise certificates will be awarded to the top gross and net teams and will only be redeemable at the host site. All ties will be honored.

 

Inclement Weather Prior to the Round: In the case of a weather delay or cancelation, an e-mail will be sent to the players, updates will be posted to the Sheeran Trophy page of the Mass Golf web site.
