2020 AGA Championship

DATES: March 6-8, 2020 (Friday – Sunday)

 

ENTRY DEADLINE: 11 p.m. on Monday, March 2.  

 

FORMAT: 54-holes of individual stroke play at gross. A cut to the low 60-players + ties will be made after 36 holes. The Legends Division will be cut to low 50% and ties after 36 holes. Groups will play in threesomes, off No.1 tee in 8-minute intervals.  

 

New for 2020 AGA Championship

 

*Walking is no longer mandatory - Carts are optional (for a fee) at the course

 

*Added Divisional element with a trophy going to the low player in each Division

 

*Members do NOT need to do or look for anything different at registration (with the exception of Legends see below)

 

*Also new is a Junior “Division” where the low player will earn an exemption into the

2020 Arizona Amateur, in addition to a trophy

 

 

*Legends who wish to play in the Open MUST designate and notify the AGA that they are playing for the Open Championship. If not, they will play in the Legend field from a different tee. Legends players who compete in the Open will still have their finish count for Open points and Legends points race, however, if they play from the Legend tees they will not be eligible to win the Open Championship (but will get the full designated Legends Divisional major points).

 

*Players who are of Divisional age will get their Open points and they will be rewarded with Divisional Major points for their performance relative to where they finish in their respective Divisional flight.

 

 

**This is a change to the points system we’ve used in the past and could make a serious impact in the year-long points races for Divisional players.

 

 

ELIGIBILITY: Open to any Arizona resident. No membership to the Arizona Golf Association required. Members of the Southern Nevada Golf Association may participate in the AGA Championship without restriction. Email leann@azgolf.org to enter without joining the Master Roster. No handicap index requirements.

PRACTICE ROUNDS:  Practice rounds may be scheduled up to 7 days in advance (for play prior to March 5), based on availability. You may call the golf shop at (602) 534-4653 to schedule a tee time.  Please mention that you will be playing in the AGA tournament.  The practice round rate depends on day of the week and time you play.  See below:

  Monday - Friday      $59 + tax riding/$44 + tax walking    After 1 p.m. $42 + tax riding/$30 + tax walking

  Saturday - Sunday   $64 + tax riding/$49 + tax walking    After 1 p.m. $47 + tax riding/$35 + tax walking


PAIRINGS: Official tournament pairings will be emailed to participants by end of day on Wednesday, March 4.  

 

DRIVING RANGE: Practice balls will be available on the range one-hour prior to play on: Saturday and Sunday at Aguila Golf Course.

 

PAYOUTS: Payouts in the form of Vans Golf Shop merchandise gift cards will be given to top finishers. Specific payout amounts will be posted prior to final-round scoring. Gift cards will be mailed to winners following the event.

 

POSTING SCORES TO GHIN: The Arizona Golf Association staff will post all tournament scores to GHIN following the event. Players should not re-post event scores.

 

CADDIES: Caddies are permitted for the event. They must walk at all times unless there is an available seat in one of the player’s carts. Caddies riding in a cart MUST NOT displace a player.

 

GOLF CART USE: Optional for the Championship. Additional Cart fee will be paid to the facility by the player

 

In addition, the following policies will be enforced:

  1. Spectator carts are not permitted for insurance reasons, NO EXCEPTIONS
  2. Non-motorized pull carts are allowed during competition.
  3. Caddies may not rent carts.

WITHDRAW POLICY: Prior to the Entry Deadline, players may withdraw from a tournament and receive a full refund by completing the withdraw process on the tournament website, calling the AGA office (602) 944-3035 during normal business hours or calling the Withdraw Line at (602) 944-3035 ext. 210 and leaving a message.

After the Entry Deadline has passed, any withdraw will be considered a “late withdraw”. Tournament entry fees will only be returned if the player’s position in the field is filled by an alternate. In any case, a $30 administrative fee will be deducted from any tournament entry fee refund, regardless of the reason for withdrawing.
