Player Information Sheet

  

 

History of the Sheeran Mixed Tournament: The Sheeran Trophy originated in 1959 and was renamed in 1972 when its trophy was presented by Dr. and Mrs. Paul Sheeran of Winchester Country Club. Last year’s winners were Caroline and Nick Wilder of Indian Ridge Country Club and Indian Ridge Women.

 

Rules of Golf: The USGA Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.

 

Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures in Response to Covid 19, Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy. Mask requirement is still in effect at the range and practice green.

 

Format: Golfers both hit their drives and select which one they want to use. Then they play alternate shot into the hole. Teams write down their team score on each hole. Add all 18 holes and that is the gross score.

 

Starting Time: All golfers to be ready at their carts for announcements at 9:20 AM. Shotgun start at 9:30 AM. Refer to pairings and starting hole assignments.

 

Handicaps: 50% combined indexes. Indexes computed on September 10th, 2020. 24.0 maximum. 15 stroke maximum player handicap differential, higher handicap adjusted.

 

Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. Do NOT exchange scorecards at any time. Online/Mobile Scoring via USGA Tournament Management. Prior to the Tournament, players should download the USGA Tournament Management App. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. Click HERE to download the App. Enter Gross scores only in app. Net will be calculated by the App. After both team’s gross scores are entered for a Hole, click “Save Scores”. Only one person from the foursome is responsible for inputting scores in the App and another is responsible for the unofficial written scorecard. These will be two golfers from different teams and is up to each foursome who those individuals will be. Scores should not be posted for handicap purposes as the round has not been played in an authorized format.

                          

Tees: Women will be playing from the Mass Golf Red Tees from approximately 5,147 yards. For reference, this is the course green tees except on holes 4,8,10 and 17 where it is the course red tees so not to be a forced carry drive. Men will be playing from the Mass Golf Blue Tees from approximately 6,231 yards.

 

Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Championship Policies & Procedures.

 

Practice Areas: The driving range and putting greens will be accessible starting 45 minutes prior to the 9:30 shotgun start. Practice time will be limited, and players should not expect to be able to have much practice time as there are a limited number of stations at the practice range and putting greens.

 

Yardage Markers: Sprinkler heads in the fairway are measured to the center of the green. Yardage markers in the middle of the fairway at 200, 150, and 100 yards to the center of the green.

Red Stakes/Lines:

Hole #1: in front of men’s tees, right side of entire hole and behind green 

Hole #2: right side of women’s tees                                    

Hole #3: entire left side and front/back of green               

Hole #4: front of men’s tees, entire right side of hole and behind green

Hole #5: front of tees (water) and behind green                

Hole #6: left side of hole                                                      

Hole #7: front of tees; front/right/behind green

Hole #8: front of men’s tees, right side of hole

Hole #9: left side of tee (drainage area); halfway up fairway left side and left of up to green (dried up creek)

Hole #10: right hand lateral ends approximately 120 yards out from green

Hole #12: middle of hole right side of fairway, small drainage areas, front and left of green

Hole #14: pond left side

Hole #15: small area middle right fairway

Hole #17: front of men’s tee, left of hole and in front of green

 

Environmentally Sensitive Areas (Cannot Play Ball In This Area - Allows Relief With Penalty):

Hole #4: far side of penalty area/start of fairway (drop area provided), behind green (drop area provided)      

Hole #9: behind green (drop area provided)

Hole #10: front of men’s tees (drop area provided)

Hole #17: in front of bridge/ESA area (drop area provided), left and in front of green

 

Out of Bounds:

Hole #8: behind hole defined by stone wall

Hole #9: right of tee defined by mulch divider       

Hole #13: houses area right of green defined by fence/property

 

Please Note: Other areas may be marked as well that are not written above.

 

Flagsticks: For the safety and well-being of all, the flagstick MUST NOT be touched and should always remain in the hole. Foam has been placed in the cup to prevent players from touching the flagstick. A ball deflected out of the hole will not be considered holed and must be played as it lies. Flagsticks are red for front, white for middle and yellow for back.

 

Bunker Relief: All bunker rakes will be removed from the golf course. A ball that comes to rest in the bunker may be marked, lifted, cleaned and dropped one club length no closer to the hole and come to rest within the relief area within the bunker. The area in which a player intends to drop may not be improved in any way. Players are expected to smooth all footprints (unkept areas) with their foot, club or other device to the best of their ability after they hit their shot.

 

Bathrooms: Located inside the front doors of the clubhouse, by the dining and located on course accessible after the 10th hole and after the 15th hole. The 18th hole comes back to the clubhouse where golfers can use the facilities there.

Water and Snacks: Contactless water stations will be located throughout the course that will be available to refill personal water bottles. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase at the beverage cart on the golf course. Beverage cart is cash only.

 

Lunch: Deli boxed lunch after play will be distributed after play in the clubhouse near the patio. Seating inside and outside available. Option of either turkey or roast beef sandwiches. All sandwiches will have condiments included on the side with fresh fruit, bag of chips, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and a bottle of water. Bar will be available during lunch and credit card or cash is accepted. Please note: Breakfast and coffee options are not available in the morning.

 

Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring area. These designated scorekeepers are the ONLY individuals from the foursome that need to report to the scoring area. All other players must not congregate near the scoring area. Scorekeepers must keep social distance in a line to confirm their scores with Mass Golf staff. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature as this will be a no touch process.

 

Awards: The Sheeran Mixed Scotch has a permanent trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners. Ties for overall gross will be honored. Other ties will be decided by a matching of cards in accordance with USGA recommended method.  Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at Sterling National Country Club.
