TERMS OF COMPETITION

BY FILING OF THIS ENTRY YOU ARE AGREEING TO THE TERMS OF COMPETITION AS SET FORTH BELOW

 

ELIGIBILITY

Entries are open to the following:

  1. Amateur golfers who are affiliated with or are a member of a club which is a Member Club of the Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association.  The amateur entrant must have an up-to-date and current USGA GHIN Handicap Index of not more than 1.4.  This entry and USGA GHIN Handicap Index must be certified by the Association or a Member Club authorized to issue a USGA GHIN Handicap. 
  2. Any professional golfer.

Entries are subject to rejection at any time (including during the Championship) by the Championship Committee.  The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct. 

 

FIELD

The total field will be 156 applicants (with a minimum of 24 Amateurs; 132 Professionals comprising the 156 players). 

 

After close of entries, the Amateur field will be determined under the following parameters priority:

  1. Past Open champions who have remained amateur
  2. Past champions of the Metropolitan Amateur Championship
  3. Past champions of the Old Warson Cup
  4. Low Amateurs of the Open from the 2018-2020 Open Championships
  5. Amateurs who made the cut in the 2020 Metropolitan Amateur Championship
  6. Lowest Handicap Indexes as of the close of entries  

 

The professional field will be finalized using the following parameters:

  1. Past Champions of the Metropolitan Open
  2. Professionals surviving the cut in the 2016-2020 Open Championships
  3. Professionals who have had status on the PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour, MacKenzie Tour or PGA Tour LatinoAmerica
  4. In the order in which Professional entries were received

 

ENTRIES:  Form, Fee, Closing Date

All players (including exempt players) shall apply on the attached form.  Copies are acceptable.

The entry fee shall be paid by every applicant, as follows:

                  Amateur                                               $175.00

                  Gateway PGA Professional                $650.00

                  Non-Gateway PGA Professional       $850.00

Entrant may file only one (1) entry.  Entry fee will be refunded regardless of the reason if Metropolitan office is notified prior to the close of entries, June 2, 2021.  After the close of entries, entry fee will be refunded only after written proof to the Championship Committee of injury or illness and such written request for refund is made prior to June 9, 2021.  No refunds for any reason if written request is made on or after June 9, 2021.  Application and fees must reach the Association office at the address listed on the entry form by 5:00 p.m., June 2, 2021. (Entries by telephone, email or fax are not acceptable). 

 

SCHEDULE
PRO-AM

Golf Professionals may be asked to participate in the Metropolitan Open Pro-Am on Wednesday, June 16th. 

CHAMPIONSHIP: 54 holes at stroke play.

156 players are eligible, including exempt players. 

THURSDAY, JUNE 17 - First Round, 18 Holes
FRIDAY, JUNE 18 - Second Round, 18 Holes; Field cut to low forty (40) and ties.

SATURDAY, JUNE 19 - Final Round, 18 Holes.

Lowest scorer for 54 Holes will be Champion.  Any tie(s) will be decided by a three (3) hole play-off, which will be held immediately following play.   The Champion will be the player with the lowest aggregate score for the play-off.  In the event of a further tie, the Champion will be determined by a hole-by-hole play-off. 

 

PRIZES

Champion: James S. Manion Trophy for a period of one (1) year; Gold Medal

Runner-Up: Silver Medal

Low Amateur: Silver Medal

NO OTHER REMUNERATION:  By this application, an entrant certifies that he is not entitled to remuneration of any kind for participation in this Championship other that the aforementioned prizes.

 

Professionals will play for a cash purse.  Professional MUST survive the cut to receive a cash prize.  Cash disbursements will be at the discretion of the Championship Committee and publicized prior to the Final Round on Saturday, June 19.    

 

PRACTICE PRIVILEGES

Practice privileges (one practice round) at Lake Forest CC are extended to players in the Championship after the close of entries, at a time not disruptive to their member play.  Information on practice privileges will be sent to players via email address provided on entry after the close of entries.  Lake Forest CC will be provided a list of players. 

 

RULES OF GOLF

Play will be governed by the United States Golf Association Rules of Golf.  Questions shall be settled by the Championship Committee whose decision shall be final.

 

GOLF BALLS; DRIVER HEADS

Only brands of golf balls on the most current USGA List of Conforming Balls may be used.  (List is available at www.usga.org).  Local Rule as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect.  Model Local Rule G-3. 

 

Only Driver Heads on the most current USGA List of Conforming Driver Heads may be used.  (List is available at www.usga.org).  Local Rule as prescribed in Section 8 of the Committee Procedures is in effect.  Model Local Rule G-1.

 

CADDIES; AUTOMOTIVE TRANSPORTATION

A player may provide his own caddie, provided the caddie is not a participant in the Championship, or a player may carry his own clubs.  Automotive Transportation is prohibited. 

 

FOOTWEAR

Lake Forest CC is a spikeless facility.  Shoes with traditionally-designed spikes, comprised either partially or entirely of metal, are prohibitedPenalty for breach of this Condition:  DISQUALIFICATION.

 

REGISTRATION AT LAKE FOREST CC

All players must be ready to play at their appropriate starting point and starting time, as published.


CONDITIONS, SCHEDULES

The Championship Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions and schedules herein.  The decision of the Championship Committee in any matter shall be final.

 

PERSONAL APPEARANCE

During all phases of the Championship, Competitors must be neat in appearance with respect to clothing and personal grooming.  The Championship Committee shall decide whether this requirement has been met and has authority to withdraw the entry of a Competitor who does not comply.  The wearing of Bermuda length shorts is permitted by both Amateurs and Professionals. 

 

NOTICE CONCERNING AMATEUR STATUS

Participation in this event is conditioned on Amateur Status.  The USGA Rules of Amateur Status shall apply.  The Championship Committee reserves the right to disqualify any participant for not having Amateur Status.  Disqualifying events include (i) competing for cash prizes in any amount and (ii) competing for merchandise prizes exceeding $750 in retail value.
