How to Register, Score and Sign-Up using the Mobile App or Web Portal

This step by step is for all players who plan on participating in Tournaments for 2021. The goal with tournaments at the club, is to use mobile scoring. With COVID-19 and this being Silicon Valley, mobile scoring is the safest and most up to date process to score a tournament. Most clubs are starting to use golf genius (NCGA Tournaments use golf genius for sign ups and scoring) and I want all my members to understand how golf genius works. I want San Jose Country Club to be the example to other country clubs, not the exception.

Please register for the league first. Check you email for If you need help doing so, please stop by the pro-shop Tuesday-Saturday and I will be more than happy to help.

How players confirm their registration

When a manager registers one or more players to an event or league portal, the players will receive emailed instructions to confirm their registration

Above is an example of what a registration email will look like. You will see the custom message sent by the manager is displayed as well as registration instructions below.

Players will click "Confirm Registration", create a permanent password" and be logged into our system where they can access all the event and league portals they are registered to.

Players do not need to create a new password every time they are registered to an event or league portal. They only need to do this once. When being registered to any other events and leagues, they will simply get a confirmation email that they are registered to an event or league. When logging in, they will see the event or league portals they are registered to.

  • Note 1: Players can still confirm for rounds via email invitations if they have not created a permanent password. However, they will not be able to login to the portal to sign up for rounds until they create a permanent password.
  • Note 2: Players can also use their email and password to log into the mobile app (instead of using a GGID) and access all of their events and leagues they are registered to. If they are including in pairings for a round that is using mobile app scoring, they can also access their scorecard and enter the scores for their pairing group.

Player Signup Process

Once signups are open for a round, players can sign up via email invitations or via the portal. When viewing the invitation email, the player can respond by clicking "Playing" or "Not Playing" (as shown below). As long as signups are open, a player can always go back to the email invitation and change their response.

Players can also sign up through the portal by going to the Splash Page (home page) of the portal. The open rounds will be listed on the left (as shown below).

If more than 10 rounds are open for signups, then they can manage their signups using the calendar-view instead (as shown below).

After responding to the invitation (either through the portal or email invitation, portal is preferred), players will receive a confirmation message that they are now playing in the round (as shown below). If a participation limit (if set up) has been exceeded, the player will receive a notification that they have been waitlisted. For more information on using waitlists for Round Signups, Click Here.

In addition to the confirmation message, players will also receive confirmation emails when they sign up or cancel for a round (as shown below).

After responding to the invite, players can also:

  • Sign up other members or guests (if allowed): When selecting this option, the players will select the other member(s) or enter the information for the other guest(s).
  • Send a message to the manager: When selecting this option, players can send an optional message to the manager. These messages are used to let the manager know which division you would like to play in etc.

Scoring using the Golf Genius App

Have a smartphone? Download the Golf Genius app for iPhone, iPad and Android for live scoring and leaderboards!

There are two types of mobile app scoring:

  • Pairing Group Scoring: This is the standard type of mobile app scoring typically used in the club environment for social rounds of golf. Each pairing group is assigned a Foursome GGID where one player in the group is responsible for using that GGID to log into the mobile app and enter scores. *Players who have registered for the league will not have to use a GGID*
  • Scoring using Digital Scorecards: This type of mobile app scoring is used for more organized and competitive events where players are assigned their own Player GGID. After logging in with the GGID, they can act as a marker and enter scores for other players, enter their own marker's notes, and certify scores after the round. *Players who have registered for the league will not have to use a GGID*

Using the Mobile App:

When opening the app, sign in with your email/password or GGID.

If logging in using the GGID, click on your name to confirm who you are.

If logging in with an email/password instead, you will be brought to the app home page where you will have various options to choose from: Enter Scores, Leaderboard, Upload Photo, Scorecards, Tee Sheets, Member Portal, and Round Settings (only available to managers).

You will then be directed to the score entry page for their pairing group.

1. Enter Scores:

This is where you will go to enter hole-by-hole scores. Enter each team or player's score then click "Save Scores". You will then be directed to the next hole. You can also clear scores for a hole and undo any changes that you've made. If a player or team does not finish a hole, click "X" or click "X" + the most likely score if they did finish (e.g., X7 will count as 7 strokes for score posting purpose). Click Here for more details on score entry for unfinished holes.

2. Leaderboards:

The leaderboard and be accessed from the score entry page or the home page on the mobile app.

As scores are being entered, you can view all the live leaderboard for all of the tournaments set up within that round.

3. Scorecards:

View the hole-by-hole scores for each pairing group with a nice summary view.

You can navigate to different pairing groups by clicking on their pairing group number on the bottom. Swipe right or left to navigate back and forth from the front 9 and back 9.

4. Tee Sheets: You can view the tee sheet sorted by pairing group or individual (alpha).

The Event Portal is a great tool that allows event participants to access information about their event anytime, anywhere. Say goodbye to back and forth emails and phone tag as everything is now in one convenient location. View tee sheets, contact fellow golfers, view results, analyze personal statistics, and more!
