ELIGIBILITY

The Parent/Child Championship is open to any of the following combinations of sides: Father or Mother/Son or Daughter, Father or Mother/Step-Son or Step-Daughter or, Grandfather or Grandmother/Grandson or Granddaughter. Any other permutations should ask the MSGA regarding eligibility. For each side, at least one player must be a resident of Maine and be a member of a Maine club with GHIN at that club. As there is a Callaway division for this event, a USGA Handicap is not required, although sides with both players having an active USGA Handicap will be eligible for net prizes.

ENTRY INFORMATION

All sides must file an entry for the championship. Players must apply for the championship online at www.mesga.org. Entries will not be taken over the phone.

Any player will be able to play on no more than two sides.

There will be four divisions in the championship, based on younger player’s age as of June 27, 2021: 14 and under, 15-18, and 19 and older. In addition, there will be a Callaway division for sides that do not have a USGA Handicap.

Cost: The entry fee for the championship is $45 per player.

Entry deadline: June 17, 2021 at 11:59 pm.

Players are reminded to apply early to allow time for resolving any errors, an incomplete application, or for not adhering to the eligibility as prescribed above.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

The championship will consist of 18 holes of modified foursomes stroke play, often called alternate shot. Both players will tee off on every hole and then will select one ball to complete the hole in alternating strokes.

Sunday, June 27: First round, 18 holes

In the event of a two-way tie, both teams will be deemed co-champions.

If more than two teams tie, a tie-breaker will decide the winner.

PRIZES

Winners: Crystal Trophy for both players on the side.

Top finishers: Prize money, determined by finishing position, in the form of a voucher added to their MSGA account. Prizes will be awarded in gross, net, and Callaway divisions.

RULES OF GOLF

All play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except as modified by Local Rules. The on-site Rules Committee will have the final authority on all rulings. The competition is deemed to be closed when the trophy is awarded to the champion.

The MSGA will refund all of the entry fee, less $5, to cover processing fees and associated costs. Refunds of entries made by credit or debit card will be applied to the same card used for payment. After the close of entries, fees will be refunded only if the tournament remains full or in the event of injury or illness. No refunds will be given after the start of the tournament. Unusual circumstances will be considered individually and are at the discretion of the MSGA.
