Terms of Competition

 

The Maine Event

Waterville CC | August 17-18

ELIGIBILITY

Entries are open to all Maine Professionals and Amateur golfers. Amateur players must be active in GHIN and must be in good standing as members of that club on or before the date they submit their application.

 

ENTRY INFORMATION

All players must file an entry for the championship. Players must apply for the championship online at www.mesga.org. Entries will not be taken over the phone.

 

Cost:    Professional:                    $185

               Amateur:                          $125

               Junior (Under 23):         $70       

 

The field will be limited to 144 total players. The professional field will consist of the first 40 players to apply. The remainder of the field is for male and female amateur golfers. Men will have 80 spots in the field and women will have 24 spots. In the event that any flight does not fill up, those spots will be allocated on a pro rata basis to the other flights.

 

In the event that an amateur flight is oversubscribed, the field will be chosen by taking the players with the lowest handicap indexes when entries close. The MSGA has the final say in determining the professional and amateur fields.

 

Entry deadline for all players is August 7, 2021 at 11:59 pm.

Players are reminded to apply early to allow time for resolving any errors, an incomplete application, or for not adhering to the eligibility as prescribed above.

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

The championship will consist of two 18-hole rounds of stroke play.

 

Tuesday, August 17: First round, 18 holes

Wednesday, August 18: Second round, 18 holes

 

In the event of a tie for the overall championship, the winner will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff.

 

PRIZES

Winner: Will be deemed Maine Champion Golfer of the Year

Top finishers: Prize money, determined by finishing position, in the form of cash for professionals, or voucher money for amateurs added to their MSGA account.

 

Note: Prizes will be awarded to winners and top finishers in six divisions: Professional, Senior Professional, Amateur, Senior Amateur, Women and Junior.

 

RULES OF GOLF

All play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except as modified by Local Rules. The on-site Rules Committee will have the final authority on all rulings. The competition is deemed to be closed when the trophy is awarded to the champion.

 

TRANSPORTATION

Players will be allowed to use motorized carts in the championship. Carts may be limited at certain sites, so players should plan accordingly. Payment for cart rentals is made to the host club. No more than two carts will be allowed in a pairing.

 

WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY

Advanced entry fees will be refunded regardless of reason if the MSGA is notified before the close of entries. The MSGA will refund all of the entry fee, less $5, to cover processing fees and associated costs. Refunds of entries made by credit or debit card will be applied to the same card used for payment. After the close of entries, fees will be refunded only if the tournament remains full or in the event of injury or illness. No refunds will be given after the start of the tournament. Unusual circumstances will be considered individually and are at the discretion of the MSGA.

 

STARTING TIMES

After the application deadline, starting times will be posted at www.mesga.org, as well as emailed to all players in the field. Starting times will be made public no less than four days before the tournament begins.

 

CONDITIONS AND SCHEDULES

The MSGA Tournament Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions, and/or schedules herein. The decision of the Tournament Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter is final.
