2021 Maine Women’s Amateur Championship

Bangor Municipal GC | July 19-21

 

 

ELIGIBILITY


The Maine Women’s Amateur Championship is open to female Maine resident amateurs. Non-residents who have been members of MSGA-affiliated clubs for ten years and who reside in Maine for at least five months annually are also eligible. Active-duty service members who are stationed in Maine, live in Maine, and hold membership with an MSGA-affiliated club are also eligible. All players must be in good standing as members of a Maine golf club and must be active in Maine GHIN on or before the date they submit their applications. A competitor’s handicap index must be equal to or lower than 36.0.

 

FORMAT


The Maine Women’s Amateur is a three-day tournament featuring individual stroke play. Players will compete for the amateur championship and in four gross flights.

 

ENTRY INFORMATION


A player must file an online entry for the championship. She may complete an application at www.mesga.org or at the MSGA women's portal. Entries will not be taken over the phone.

 

The field will be limited to 120 players. If the tournament fills up prior to the close of entry, players will still be allowed to register. If necessary, after the registration deadline has passed, the field will be narrowed to the 120 players with the lowest handicap indexes. The MSGA has the final say in determining the field for the championship.

 

Entry fee: $125; $16 daily cart fee for one seat

 

Entry deadline: July 7, 2021 (before midnight)

 

Players are reminded to apply early to allow time for addressing errors, incomplete applications, and/or eligibility issues.

 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS


The championship will consist of 54 holes of stroke play.

 

Monday, July 19:                   First round, 18 holes
Tuesday, July 20:                   Second round, 18 holes
Wednesday, July 21:           Final round, 18 holes

 

In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff.

 

PRIZES


All prizes at the Maine Women’s Amateur Championship go to gross winners.

 

The winner of the Maine Women’s Amateur will be conferred the title of Maine Women’s Amateur Champion and will receive a crystal trophy and a monetary award. The runner-up will also receive a crystal trophy and monetary award.

 

Players who place first in their flights will receive crystal trophies. And the top four place getters in each flight will earn winnings to be added to their MSGA accounts.

 

A player may win only one competition. 

 

STARTING TIMES


Starting times will be posted at www.mesga.org and will be emailed to all players in the field on Friday, July 9.

 

EXEMPTIONS

 

A player who does not meet eligibility requirements but has a history of championship play or significant special circumstances may appeal to the MSGA Women's Tournament Committee for entry consideration. 

 

PRACTICE PRIVILEGES


A separate email will be sent to all players in the championship for practice round information.

 

RULES OF GOLF


All play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA, except as modified by local rules. The on-site Rules Committee will have the final authority on all rulings.

 

TRANSPORTATION


Players will be allowed to use motorized carts in the championship. Carts may be reserved and paid for in advance during registration. Carts will be limited to two per pairing group.

 

CONDITIONS AND SCHEDULES


The MSGA Women’s Tournament Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions, and/or schedules herein. The decision of these committees in any matter is final.

 

WITHDRAWAL AND REFUND POLICY

 

Advanced entry fees will be refunded regardless of reason if the MSGA is notified before the close of entries. The MSGA will refund all the entry fee, less $5 to cover processing fees and associated costs. Refunds of entries made by credit or debit card will be applied to the same card used for payment. After the close of entries, fees will be refunded only if the tournament remains full or in the event of injury or illness. No refunds will be awarded after the start of the tournament. Unusual circumstances will be considered individually.
