2021 Arkansas Men's Match-Play Championship

Eligibility: Open to male amateur golfers who are bona fide residents of the state of Arkansas and a current individual member of ASGA. There are 5 divisions – Amateur – 16+, Mid-Amateur – 35+, Senior – 50+, Super Senior – 60+, & Masters – 70+ Handicap Index Requirement: Amateurs and mid-senior are required to have a USGA handicap index of 8.0 or less, Seniors, Super Seniors and Masters must have a Handicap Index of 14.0 or less. Seniors, Super-seniors and Masters are required to have a USGA handicap index 14.0 or less. All must meet the age requirement by June 17, 2021.
Format: Contestants in all divisions (unless exempt from qualifying) will play 18 holes on Thursday, June 17 at Lost Springs Golf Club to determine the bracket. The stipulated round is two 9-hole rounds and based on inclement weather, the brackets could be determined based on a 9-hole score.
Tee Markers: Amateurs (16 & older) will play the BLUE tee yardage, Mid-Seniors (35 & older) and Seniors (50 & older) will play the WHITE tee yardage; Super-Seniors (60 & older) and Masters Division (70 & older) will play a WHITE/GOLD Combo tee yardage. More information will be sent to the players with the local rules and starting times. The “yardage” of tee color could be a combination of tees & is “approximate.”
Bracket Sizes: Amateur division will be 32 players (48 or more entrants, bracket is 64). The Mid-Amateur and Senior division will each be 16 players (24 or more entrants, bracket is 32). The Super-Senior Division and Masters Division will each be an 8-man bracket (12 or more entrants, bracket is 16). If there are more spots than players, the low qualifiers (could be exempt players) will receive a first round bye.
Additional Exemptions in 2021, in addition to the Defending Champion in each division:
- 8 –man bracket: Points leader in respective Player of the Year* & 2020 Ark. Amateur Champion in that division
- 16-man bracket: Top 3 in respective Player of the Year* & 2020 Ark. Amateur Champion in that division
- 32-man bracket: Top 6 in Player of the Year race* & 2020 Ark. Amateur Champion in that division
- 64-man bracket: Top 12 in Player of the Year race* & 2020 Ark. Amateur Champion in that division
Exemption Seeding:
Defending Champion: #1 Seed – Qualifying Medalist: #2 Seed – 2020 State Am. Champ.: #3 Seed – POY Points will continue down the list in seeding order.
Schedule of Events:
Thursday, June 17 - Qualifying round (defending champions exempt from qualifying & #1 seed in their respective division – Wes McNulty, Stan Payne, Gordy McKeown, Bob Brooks & Bill Wrentz. Additional qualifying exemptions are listed above.
Friday, June 18 - First round in a.m. for all divisions & second round for all divisions in p.m. (this is a change since moving the event to June this year instead of the usual August date)
Saturday, June 19 - All divisions will play a match in a.m. – if an 8-person bracket, this will be the championship match in AM. If the bracket is 16-players, the semi-finals will be in the AM and the finals (Championship Match) in the PM.
Sunday, June 20 - if the bracket is 32, the Championship match will be in the AM. If the bracket is 64, the semi-finals will be in the AM and the Championship Match will be in the PM. Please note bracket sizes above -for a 64-man bracket, a minimum of 48 players must be entered.
Practice Round: Wednesday, June 16 or another time with approval of the golf shop (479-631-9988). Todd Pinneo is the PGA Professional. To play a practice round, each player must pay a cart fee of approximately $25
Prizes: The amateur champion will have name inscribed on Roy Wood Trophy. The winner and runner-up in all divisions will receive individual trophies. Pro Shop Certificates will be awarded based on field size in all divisions. Prize breakdown posted on scoreboard.
