Player Information Sheet & Local Rules

  

History of the Sheeran Mixed Tournament: The Sheeran Trophy originated in 1959 and was renamed in 1972 when its trophy was presented by Dr. and Mrs. Paul Sheeran of Winchester Country Club. Last year’s winners were Kris and Ross Henderson of Bedrock Golf Club.

 

Rules of Golf: The USGA Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.

 

Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures in Response to Covid-19, Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.

 

Format: Golfers both hit off the tee and select which drive they want to use. Then they play alternate shot into the hole. Teams write down their team score on each hole. Add all 18 holes and that is the gross score.

                 

Shotgun Times: 9:30 AM Shotgun Start. Refer to pairings and starting hole assignments. Golfers to be ready at their carts by 9:20 AM and at their designated hole to start at 9:30 AM.                         

 

Handicaps: 50% combined handicap as of September 7th, 2021.

 

Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. Do NOT exchange scorecards at any time. The official scorecard will be the mobile golf genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the USGA Tournament Management App. Click HERE for mobile scoring instructions. Click HERE to download the app. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome.

 

Enter Gross scores only in the app. Net will be calculated by the app. After all player’s gross scores are entered for a hole, click “Save Scores”. Only one person from the foursome is responsible for inputting scores in the app. You can toggle back and forth from the score input page to the leaderboard near the top of the phone app screen. The designated scorekeeper in the group is responsible for checking hole by hole gross scores at the scoring area with a Mass Golf representative. Mass Golf will not be posting scores to GHIN.

                          

Tees: All men will be playing from the Mass Golf Blue Tee Markers from 6150 yards. All women will also be playing from the Mass Golf Red Tee Markers from 5573 yards.

 

Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.

 

Practice Areas: Short game areas - The practice putting and chipping areas are located in front of the clubhouse (pro shop side) and behind the clubhouse (by the first tee).

 

Driving Range - The driving range is located on the property before you get to the clubhouse. Players must drive their cars to the range….no carts will be allowed to drive to the range… The range is 1.5 miles away from the clubhouse.

Yardage Markers: Markers in the fairway.

Out of Bounds: Defined by the inside edge at ground level of all white stakes, white lines, boundary/split rail fence posts, and public roads.

Note: A ball that crosses out of bounds along a public road and comes to rest beyond that boundary is out of bounds even though it might lie on another part of the golf course.

 

Red Penalty Areas: Defined by red lines. In the absence of a line, the stakes define the edge of the penalty area.

Hole 2 – Left side No Play Zone*, right of tee

Hole 3 – Left side No Play Zone*, right of tee, pond beyond 4th green, behind green

Hole 4 – Pond, back right of green                                            

Hole 5 – Right of blue Tees, front of tees, left (pond), right side approx. 100 yds through the hole

Hole 6 – Left & right of both tees, left side

Hole 7 – Front and right of tees, left side between holes 6 & 7, left & behind green

Hole 8 – Left & right (ponds)

Hole 9 – Left of green (pond)

Hole 12 – Right of fairway (pond)

Hole 13 – Left & right (ponds)

Hole 14 – Left & right (ponds)

Hole 15 – In front of tee & right of fairway (pond)

 

Note: (No Play Zone*) – When a ball is in the No Play Zone, the ball must NOT be played as it lies and relief MUST be taken under Rule 17.1e. Do not enter these environmentally protected areas.

 

Immovable Obstructions: All cart paths (paved or unpaved), roads (paved or unpaved), their immediate extensions/adjacent worn areas and white lined areas tying into cart paths. Relief may be taken.

 

Ground Under Repair: Areas enclosed with white painted lines are considered ground under repair. Relief may be taken. Also, all flower beds are considered ground under repair. Any construction or wood chipping, downed trees are considered ground under repair.

 

Pace of Play:  Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you.

 

Bathrooms: Located inside the clubhouse and can be utilized at the turn. On course restrooms are located by holes 6 tee and 13 tee and 15 green.

Water and Snacks: Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase at the beverage cart on the golf course as well as at the halfway house at the clubhouse. The beverage cart is CASH ONLY. Snacks and beverages can also be purchased downstairs in the clubhouse.

 

Food and Beverage – Boxed Lunches: Buffet lunch will be served following play, starting at 1:30 PM. The menu will be as follows: Tri-colored pasta salad, country-style coleslaw, kettle-cooked New England style potato chips, tri-colored wraps including Roast Turkey Breast, Roast Beef with Cheddar Cheese & Tuna Salad with lettuce, tomatoes and pickles, assorted condiments and, of course, cookies. Please reach out if you have any dietary restrictions.

 

There are WATER COOLERS with bottled water located on the golf course next to the bathrooms. There will also be the cash only beverage cart available on the golf course throughout the day as well.

 

Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. These designated scorekeepers are the ONLY individuals from the foursome that needs to report to the scoring area. All other players must not congregate near the scoring area. Scorekeepers must keep social distance in a line to confirm their scores with Mass Golf staff. The designated scorekeeper in the group is responsible for checking hole by hole gross scores at the scoring area with a Mass Golf representative. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature as this will be a no touch process.

 

Awards: The Sheeran Mixed has a permanent trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners. Ties for overall gross will be honored. Other ties will be decided by a matching of cards in accordance with USGA recommended method.  Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at The Club at New Seabury.
