Members Season 2021/2022

Dear Member,

We are delighted to share the 2021-2022 Member Events Calendar. The calendar contains information that you will need to have a fun and successful season at the Royal Golf Club, and sharing it in advance will allow you to plan and choose the events you wish to participate in. Finalizing all events this far in advance took weeks of planning by Jerome and the rest of the team.

The aim with this calendar is to:

1. Provide a full and comprehensive Event Calendar that will allow the opportunity for all skill levels, good competition and chance to socialize and network.

2. While providing a full Event Calendar we need to be conscious of having availability for those choosing not to participate in certain events or formats.

3. Finding a balance between fun and social Events and handicap rounds throughout the year.

To further manage your expectations please note that changes to the calendar are unavoidable and will do our best to communicate any changes well in advance with enough notice and accurately.

Please find below further information with regards to this year’s Events. Please take the time to look over these notes carefully as it will help further understanding of what Events are taking place at the Club this season.

Sign – Up Process:

This season we will be using golf genius to handle the sign-up process. We are extremely excited about this as it will enhance the experience for you as a Member while simplifying things for the team. Through our tournament software Golf Genius, you will now be able to sign-up for all Events online. It is an easy process and will give you all the required information for each Event as well and will be followed by a confirmation e-mail once your registration is complete. We will utilize Open Tee Times or Roll-Ups (unless stated otherwise) which will not require signing-up prior to the Event in order to, as far as possible, accommodate all tee time preferences.

Please note the dates, times, formats, entry fees and all sign-up start and deadlines, which will be released at least one month before each Event. It is imperative to follow event deadlines in order for us to host and execute successful Member Events. Unfortunately if you miss the sign-up deadline it reduces the chance to enter Events and we will not be able to always accommodate late entries.

Lastly, please note that most sign-up deadlines are about a week BEFORE the scheduled Event. We need to do this to ensure there is no displacement of tee times for other Members to utilize. This information will be posted on the website, on the notice board and it will be sent out in our Members Weekly Catch-Up. We will update each event with more information as we get closer to the actual dates of the events.

Seasonal Knockouts will be held in the winter ranging from months November to April and in the summer from April to September. We will host both, Individual Knockouts as well as Pairs Knockouts.

Major Pairs is an individual stableford event in which each member will have the opportunity to rely on a professional score from the irrespective Golf Major taking place at the time. Once you have completed your round you will at random be paired with a professional and their score added to yours to for a combined result. (Professionals gross scores will be converted to stableford points - i.e. level par would equate to 36 points)

Green Keepers Revenge is an event put on by our agronomy department to say thank you to the members for allowing them to carry out maintenance to the course which may at times cause slight disruption to the playing conditions. The Green Keepers set the course up with obstacles and challenges which makes for a lot of fun. The format is usually kept to a fourball texas scramble which helps with the enjoyment of your round.

Individual Stableford rounds have been added to the calendar as a alternate handicap qualifying competition for those that prefer not to play in medals. There are currently 10 planned starting September 2021.

With each team having the ability to speculate against the Pro's we take to the course in fourball texas scramble. To make it even we ask the Pro's to play of the tips, they have yet to win with previous results finding themselves in the top 5 but always short of victory.

Green VS Brown is an event in which we play against our neighboring golf club, Awali. This event usually sees around 20 players from each course battle it out in a pairs match play format with 9 holes at The Royal Golf Club and 9 holes at Awali Golf Club.

Members VS Associates as you can assume is a pairs match play format in which the Members take on our associates. Great time for the Members to get to know the associates on a more personal level and foster better relationships.

For those members that find themselves on the island for Christmas we host our very own Christmas Pairs and encourage all Members to enjoy this festive day with us. The format is generally a Pairs Texas Scramble with the option to join the Christmas brunch in one of the outlets post round.

End the year off with a bang by playing in the Hogmanay Hack taking place on 31 December and joining the New Year celebration in our outlets. This is a fourball texas scramble event taking place around mid morning not to hinder any celebration plans.
