2017 BNGA Medal Play

Rules of Competition and Tournament Information

 

 

Format of Play:   

Individual Stroke Play.  36 holes for all flights except the top 18 players.  Those 18 will complete another round at Bloomington Country Club for a total of 54 holes to determine the City Medal Play Champion.  Flights will be determined by first day qualifying scores. 

 

Tees

  • Saturday - All players will play from the White tees.
  • Sunday - Championship Flight - Weibring tees.  All other flights - White tees. 
  • Sunday - Bloomington Country Club will be from the back tees.   

 

Rules: 

  • The ball is to be played down everywhere unless otherwise communicated by the golf course. 
  • Ground under repair is marked on the course - there is no penalty for relief from ground under repair.
  • The one ball rule is not in effect.
  • Five minutes is the maximum allowable time to look for a lost ball.
  • If in doubt of a ruling, play two balls and record both scores.  A decision will be made to the proper ruling by the rules committee. 
  • Distance Measuring Devises will be allowed.  Devises can ONLY measure distance.    
  • Otherwise, U.S.G.A. rules apply.
  • Scorecards must be kept by an opposite players in the group.  All cards must be totaled, signed by both the player and scorer, and turned into the pro shop within 10 minutes of finishing.

 

Inclement weather rules:  All efforts will be put forth to finish the tournament.  With the exception of lightning, threatening weather, or heavy-incessant rain, continue playing unless notified by the course.  If lightning or threatening weather occurs, immediately mark the position of your ball and seek shelter.  Play will resume from the marked spot upon the reopening of the golf course.

 

Pace of Play:  All players are required to keep pace.  Keeping pace is defined as: 

Keeping within one golf shot of the group in front of you, or play at an average speed of 14.5 minutes per hole.  Examples of checkpoints the ranger will be using: 4 holes = 58 minutes, 9 holes = 2 hours 10 minutes, 12 holes = 2 hours 54 minutes, etc.  Players that fail to meet either of those requirements at any point on the golf course will be warned once.  If no improvement has been made following the first warning, a second warning will be issued at that time and the team will be given 20 minutes to close the gap.  If the gap is not closed, the individual(s) slowing the group will be assessed a penalty.  If the penalty is assessed during the qualifying, it will be 2 strokes. 

 

Flights:

  • The entire field must complete a round for it to be considered official.  If the field can not complete the round by dark, the last completed round scores will stand. 
  • Championship Flight will consist of the low 32 individual qualifiers plus ties. 
  • All other flights will have approximately 16 players.

 

Ties: 

  • Ties for 1st place in all flights will be playoff immediately following the completion of play for that flight. 
  • Ties for Medalist and the Championship Flight cut to 18 for play at Bloomington Country Club are determined by a Scorecard playoff using Round Two cards as follows:  total of the back 9, back 6, back 3, 18, 17, 16…1 and if all holes are tied a single coin flip. 
  • All other ties will remain ties and split any prize money, if applicable.

Competition Dates: 

Round 1                                18 holes  Saturday                       Aug.5   Weibring Golf Club

Round 2                                18 holes   Sunday                        Aug. 6 Weibring Golf Club

Round 3                                18 holes   Sunday                        Aug. 6 (Top 18 players only at BCC.)

 

 

 

Top 18 play Sunday afternoon at Bloomington Country Club:

  • The championship flight will be cut to an exact 18 via a scorecard playoff.
  • The final 18 holes will be played Sunday Aug. 6th at Bloomington Country Club beginning at 2:00pm.
  • The tournament will conclude on Sunday August 6th. The entire flight must complete a round for it to be considered official.  If the flight cannot complete the round by dark, the last completed round scores will stand. 

 

Tee Times and Results:

  • Round One  Tee Times will run from 7:00am-10:20am Saturday, August 5th
  • Results and Round Two Tee Times will be:
    • Based upon round one results and begin at 6:30am Sunday, August 6th  
    • Available 1 hour after the final group finishes qualifying.
    • Posted at Weibring Golf Club, on www.isugolf.com, on www.bnga.org, emailed to participants, and in the Sunday Pantagraph.
    • Flight Order: Championship Flight starting at 6:30am followed by 1st, 2nd, 3rd flights
    • Score Order: High score to Low score within each flight.
  • Round Three Tee Times will be assigned in threesomes and:
    • Based upon 36 hole totals and begin at 2:00pm at BCC
    • Posted at Bloomington Country Club, Weibring Golf Club, on www.isugolf.com, on www.bnga.org, and emailed to participants.
    • Score Order: High score to Low score.  

 

Prize Fund Payout – will be available within one week of the completion of the tournament.
