Gale Gregson Hanna was a towering figure in Rhode Island’s golf community. She was an accomplished player, an advocate for the game and a dedicated volunteer. Her life in golf began when she was young. Her mother was a founder of Rhode Island’s Girls’ Junior Golf Program. She took to the game and excelled at it, winning golf championships on the state level.

Hanna was president of the Rhode Island Women’s Golf Association from 2011-12 and was instrumental in its merger with the Rhode Island Golf Association. She was also a Board Member of the RIGA and served on the Board of the New England Women’s Golf Association from 2010-12. In addition to her athletic accomplishments in the game and her leadership in advocating for golf, she was fundamentally a hard-working volunteer.

Hanna died in Sept. 2020. In Gale’s memory and to ensure her legacy continues for future generations, the RIGA has created the Gale Gregson Hanna Girls’ Junior Scholarship.

The Rhode Island Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the service of golf in Rhode Island. Founded in 1902, our primary mission is to promote, protect and preserve the traditions of the game of golf in Rhode Island. As "caretakers" of the game we work to preserve the rich history of golf in our state and to provide numerous services that benefit all that play the game.

Contributions of any kind will help carry out our mission and would be appreciated. Your fully tax-deductible donation to the Gale Gregson Hanna Girls’ Junior Scholarship Fund will help continue growing the game for generations to come.
