ROLAND TURNER

Numbers are my thing as they relate to statistics, I can paint a picture of scenic beauty and can find deep hidden truths.  Numbers are better than words, although words can be more powerful than numbers, words can be twisted and have serval different meanings to the individual. Once a number has been written down it is clear, it has unmistakable value.  If I told you, at Southwyck, Roland Turner shot 65, five shots better than the rest of the field on a cold windy wet day, you would know that was a good score. But if we look deeper into the numbers you will find how great and beautiful his round was. So let's go into the numbers, he hit 13 of 14 fairways, 12 of 18 greens and 31 putts which he was fourth in the field in putts only because his GIR was so high. Roland’s ball-striking was on point Sunday and no one in the League was going to beat him that day, not even the League’s Best Jose Sanchez or the League’s Hottest Lonnie Knowles or the League’s Most Faithful Gabe Ramos who all finished tied for second place. The Blue team has completely manhandle the league since the 2016 Culture Cup of the 7 regular tournaments the blue team members have won five of them not to mention, Vincent Gilmore play in the B Flight. I know the season is just getting started with a lot more golf to play but consider this an early warning be afraid, be very afraid!  Cause Captain Turner is definitely looking to go 3 for 3 in the Cup.  Congratulation, Mr. Turner on a great round of golf.

DAVID BLEVINS

It was awesome to see my good friend David Blevins win. I have so much respect and admiration for him. Number one he has been with me since I first started with The Greater Houston Tour, almost 20 years and his commitment has never wavered. Number two, when I call to see if he’s playing the first thing from his mouth is let me check with Shelly (his wife) to see what she has planned. His commitment to his family and friends is unparalleled. He is the kind of guy you want in the foxhole with you. I got to admit this Sunday when he pulled out his fanny pack I was thrown off a little bit.

This was a very close race 2 shots separated by five players. David Blevins, Joe Hart, and three rookies Michael Ruiz, Houston Duckwall and Rob Barber. Barber, Ruiz, and Duckwall were the 3 front runners going into the clubhouse, but too many rookie mistakes on the back 9 hurt their chances. Joe lost 3 shots on 16 and 17 to pretty much hand David the Championship. David most definitely was the best player on the course in the B Flight he was second in putts, second in green, third in fairways and most importantly first low net and low gross. Congratulations Big D. on a well-earned victory.
