Player Information Sheet & Local Rules

  

History of the Cris Eaton Chapman Tournament: The Cris Eaton Chapman Tournament originated in 1966 and is named after Mrs. Charles F. (Cris) Eaton who was twice the President of the WGAM from 1954-1957. She also initiated the New England Women’s Golf Association to foster interstate competition. Last year’s winners were Elizabeth Derwin and Kris Henderson.

 

Rules of Golf: The USGA® Rules of Golf, Local Rules and Terms of Competitions for Mass Golf Tournaments govern all play.

 

Mass Golf Policies & Procedures: Please refer to Policies & Procedures and Pace of Play Policy.

 

Format: Both golfers hit their tee shot, then hit their partner’s ball, then the team selects a ball and alternates playing that ball into the hole.

 

Handicap Index® not exceeding 54.0. Players with a handicap index of higher than 36.0 will be limited to a 36.0 Playing Handicap™

  • Division 1 must have both players with Handicap Indexes up to 18.0.
  • Division 2 must have both players with Handicap Indexes 18.1-54.0.

                      

Shotgun Times: Refer to pairings and starting hole assignments.

 

8:00 AM Shotgun Time                                                  

7:35 AM – All golfers to be ready at their carts.             

8:00 AM – Shotgun at designated hole.                        

 

1:30 PM Shotgun Time 

1:20 PM – All golfers to be ready at their carts. Announcements and getting to designated hole.

 

Handicaps: 60% of lower handicap plus 40% of higher handicap for team handicap as of April 26th, 2022.

 

Scorecards: Paper scorecards will be provided to all participants for the player’s own notes. All paper scorecards are considered UNOFFICIAL. Do NOT exchange scorecards at any time. The official scorecard will be the mobile Golf Genius app scoring. Prior to the tournament, players should download the Golf Genius App. Click HERE to download the app. You will be provided a GGID number on your scorecards and that is the number you type into the app to see your foursome.

 

Enter Gross scores only in the app. Net will be calculated by the app. After all player’s gross scores are entered for a hole, click “Save Scores”. Only one person from the foursome is responsible for inputting scores in the app. You can toggle back and forth from the score input page to the leaderboard near the top of the phone app screen.The designated scorekeeper in the group is responsible for checking hole by hole gross scores at the scoring area with a Mass Golf representative. Mass Golf will not be posting scores to GHIN.

                          

Tees: Salem Green Tees from 5,174 yards.

 

Distance-Measuring Devices: Permitted as specified in Mass Golf Policies & Procedures.

 

Practice Areas: The driving range and putting green will be accessible before play starting at 7:00 AM for the morning shotgun. The driving range is located behind the clubhouse. The practice putting green is located between the 1st tee and 9th green in front of the clubhouse. Carts will be allowed to go to your car after the shotgun.

Pace of Play:  Pace for this round is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Please ensure that you are keeping within a hole of the group in front of you and within the time par printed on your scorecard.

 

Bathrooms: If you enter and walk through the golf shop make a left. There is also a bathroom out on the course between holes 4 and 5 and 15 and 16.

 

Inclement Weather: Click link HERE. Lightening shelter between holes 6 and 7.

 

Water and Snacks: Water stations are available at multiple locations throughout the course. There will be no beverage carts available.

 

Food and Beverage – Buffet: There will be a coffee and tea station available in the clubhouse in the morning. Buffet style lunch will be available in the Clubhouse starting at 11:30 AM. A deli style buffet will be offered, beginning with a Soup du Jour.  Deli meat options will include smoked turkey breast, smoked honey baked ham, and rare roast beef, along with an assortment of cheeses. Other options include chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, tomato mozzarella salad, and grilled chilled asparagus salad. Lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and onions will also be available. Sides will include Cape Cod Potato Chips, Fresh Fruit, and Fresh Baked Brownies and Cookies.

 

Scoring: At the end of the round all scores must be verified by the team before your team’s designated app scorekeeper and unofficial written scorekeeper reports to the scoring tent. These designated scorekeepers are the ONLY individuals from the foursome that needs to report to the scoring area. All other players must not congregate near the scoring area. Scorekeepers must keep social distance in a line to confirm their scores with Mass Golf staff. The designated scorekeeper in the group is responsible for checking hole by hole gross scores at the scoring area with a Mass Golf representative. Mass Golf staff will verify with the designated scorekeepers that their scores are accurate and will take a verbal yes as a confirmation/signature as this will be a no touch process.

 

Awards: The Cris Eaton Chapman has a permanent trophy that will be engraved with the names of the low gross winners. Ties for overall gross will be honored. Other ties will be decided by a matching of cards in accordance with USGA® recommended method.  Prize Certificates (gross & net places) will be given out and must be redeemed at Salem Country Club.    

 

Additional Information: Practice rounds are not permitted.

Immovable Obstructions: All cart paths (paved or unpaved), roads (paved or unpaved), their immediate extensions/adjacent worn areas and white lined areas tying into cart paths. Relief may be taken.

Ground Under Repair: Areas enclosed with white painted lines are considered ground under repair. Relief may be taken. Also, all flower beds are considered ground under repair.

Integral Parts of the Golf Course: All stonewalls, fences, rock outcroppings and curbing adjacent to the club driveway/parking lot or roads defining out of bounds are integral parts of the golf course. Relief without penalty is not permitted. Stonewalls are located on holes 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,12,13,15,16,17.
