Course Website

Known as a fair test of golf skills for any golfer, Pine Meadow also has such picturesque beauty with its fairways lined with towering blue spruce, pines as well as wild life, that it is easy for a player to forget they’re here to play golf.  Rated the No. 1 best “new public golf course in America” by Golf Digest in 1986, it continues to be ranked among the top 10 public access courses in Illinois.

Event Information

The Crosstown Challenge is a friendly, fun team competition where we divide players geographically into two teams. We'll divide up players based on their current city/town of residence with the goal of forming two same-sized teams - City vs Suburbs.  We will also divide the event into 3 random groups for better time management (due to tee times vs. shotgun start).  Each group will have its own City vs Suburbs competition; we will also determine an overall winner of City vs Suburbs at the end of the event.  There will also be on-course contests for each group.

In honor of Alice Davitt, we will be playing a team match play format similar to the LPGA Amateurs Cup, but with a fun twist, in that each hole is worth one point, for a total of 18 points per match. Players will compete in Singles Match Play against another player with a similar handicap.  Note: Check out Match Play Overview under Player Info for more information about match play.

We understand that some players may not want to play the Match Play format.  Players will also have the option to select Stroke Play instead of match play.  Stroke play results will still used to calculate points toward team totals.

In order to compete, players must have USGA handicaps.  Don't have a handicap?  Register for the Fun Option.  You can still play in the event and participate in the on-course contests, but your score won't count toward the team score.  If you have a non-member guest with an active USGA handicap, the guest will be eligible to compete in the team competition.

After golf, please feel free to grab a drink (cash bar) and mingle with your fellow players while awaiting the results.  Each group will have its own Awards presentation.  Early groups are welcome to stick around for the later / overall Awards presentations.

About Alice Davitt

Alice Davitt joined the EWGA in 2004.  She served on the Chapter Board for several years, including Chapter President in 2008.  Alice was an active member of the chapter and friend to many of us.  She was a loyal member of the Pine Meadow league, which is why we selected Pine Meadow as the venue for this event.  She was especially an advocate for match play within our chapter, serving as Chapter Match Play Coordinator and competing in the LPGA Amateurs Cup.

Alice was actively involved with the EWGA/ LPGA Amateurs at the national level as well, attending numerous national conferences and events over the years.  Alice became part of the national Tournament Operations (TOPS) committee, helping to conduct national tournaments.

Alice passed away in December 2021 after a long battle with cancer.

It was Alice's wish that to celebrate her life people should wear their favorite golf shirt and colorful socks!

Alice also selected two charities for donations collected in her memory:

  • Orphans of the Storm, 2200 Riverwoods Rd., Deerfield, IL 60015. www.orphansofthestorm.org
  • Kiddie Junction Educational Institute, 1619 E. Oakton St., Des Plaines, IL 60018.

We will be collecting donations on her behalf at this event, which will be distributed evenly between the two charities.
