2017 BAKKER CROSSING THURSDAY TWO-MAN MATCH PLAY LEAGUE

Thursday Two-Man Match Play League

Bakker Crossing hosts a two-man match play league on Thursday nights throughout the spring and summer. 2017 Thursday League will consist of a 14-week regular season running from May 11 through August 10. Playoffs will be held from August 17 through August 31.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Bakker Crossing Men’s Thursday Golf League is to create a fun golfing environment for all participants by facilitating competitive and fun golfing events and creating an atmosphere that will allow everyone to meet new people and socialize on a weekly basis.

General Information

The Bakker Crossing Thursday League consists of 32 two-man teams. Teams are divided into four divisions. Each division houses eight teams. You will play each divisional opponent twice throughout the regular season.

Format

The format is 9-hole, four-ball match play, with two teammates playing their better ball against the better ball of the opposing team. Players use their net better ball. The team that wins the hole receives 1 point; if the teams tie the hole, each team receives half a point. The team with the most points at the end of the match is awarded an additional point for a maximum possible total of 10 points per match. We use 80% of each player’s handicap to compute how many strokes he gets per hole. Each team plays all nine holes every match.

Playoffs

A three-week playoff season will begin August 18 (the week following the last week of the regular season) and culminate in championship and consolation matches on September 1. The top two teams from each division will qualify for the playoffs and will be seeded 1 through 8 based on their total regular season points. Each seeded team will compete to advance to the final week. If you are unable to play your playoff match on the scheduled day, you have until the next week of scheduled matches to make up your match (one week). Any matches not made up by the start of the following week’s matches will result in a coin flip to decide the winner.

Subs

Thursday League Matches are played in accordance with the USGA Handicap System. All players and substitute players must have an active GHIN Handicap to play. Teams/players are responsible for finding their own subs. Team/players MUST notify Bakker Crossing staff a minimum of 24 hours before the start of their match of any/all substitute players. Teams/players that fail to notify Bakker Crossing of their subs within 24 hours of their match starting time will have said sub play to a zero handicap. A list of subs is available through the Bakker Crossing Men’s Golf Association (BCMGA) and we will make every effort to help connect you with a sub, but it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to cover your absence. Bakker Crossing will not be held responsible if a sub cannot be found. ALL SUBS MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE GHIN HANDICAP OR THEY WILL PLAY TO A ZERO HANDICAP.

Playoff Spot/Seed Tiebreakers

In the event of a tie, when deciding which team advances to the playoffs and playoff seedings, ties are decided based on head-to-head matches. If there is still a tie after comparing head-to-head matches, the advancing team is determined by (in order):

  • Total 2nd half points
  • Total points from the last 3 weeks of play
  • Total points from the last week of play

Playoff Match Tiebreakers

The winner of playoff matches resulting in a tie will be determined based on the USGA preferred tie-break method. The advancing team is determined by (in order):

  • Total points from the last 6 holes
  • Total points from the last 3 holes
  • Total points from the last hole
  • Handicap hole difficulty

League Handicaps

GHIN Handicaps are used to determine your handicap for league play. You receive 80% of your handicap. To calculate strokes awarded, take 80% of your handicap index; then stroke off the lowest handicap of the group. Example:  If the handicaps with the match are 3, 8, 10 and 15, the 3 handicap gets zero strokes, the 8 handicap gets 5 strokes, the 10 gets 7 strokes and the 15 gets 12 strokes.

Forfeits

All League players must find a sub if they are unable to play. If a team cannot play, they forfeit the week. The forfeiting team gets zero points and the team winning by forfeit gets 7 points. If both teams are absent, the match must be made up within two weeks. If the match has not been made up within two weeks both teams get zero points for the week. If players cannot decide on a time to play, the standing default tee time is 4:00 PM on the final day of the two-week make-up period (for example, 4:00 PM Wednesday August 24 to make up a match originally scheduled for Thursday August 11).

Player Responsibilities

New for 2017, the Bakker Crossing staff will be responsible for posting all Thursday League scores. For handicap purposes, each team must turn in their score cards to the Pro Shop and Bakker Crossing staff will post scores along with the results. Penalty scores may be assessed to players who, outside of Thursday League, are found to be posting scores incorrectly or who are not posting their scores for handicap purposes.

Weather Cancellations

League play is not canceled (even for rain) unless the course is unplayable or there is lightning. Players should call ahead when conditions are questionable to confirm the status of play. If a league night is canceled, teams have two weeks to make up their match; failure to do so will result is points being split equally between the teams.

NOTE: If the weather turns inclement after play has begun, players are expected to wait until the weather clears and complete the match that day. If weather does not allow the match to be finished that day, the remaining holes to be played are halved unless both teams agree to play them later and do so within two weeks of the original date.

Dues & Payouts

  • Yearly dues for the Bakker Crossing Thursday League are $100.00 per two-man team
  • Players MUST have a USGA GHIN Handicap in order to participate
  • The top six teams will receive gift certificates to the Bakker Crossing Pro Shop
